I know this isn't it but sure did remind me of it.
This bucket (just the body/chassis?) was on Craigslist in Burbank, Ca. this past may. The guy wrote a description (no pic) and mentioned that it appeared in H.R. magazine in 1961. I went looking and found tho pic.
It may still be around but thats about all I know.

  3. You puttin that one together now? It always makes me jealous when someone has the determination to put an old one together correctly as it once was.

  4. Try "OldHippie.Com", go to forums and look at the column on the left, bunch of pics catagorized. Click the fuel altered choice and good luck.

There is a YouTube video of it at a car show this year.
Here is a pic of my car. I was told it was originally built in the 70's and that it resembled the Ground shaker.

Sheet metal work here is stunning...This is a lesson in focus: dedicated design and follow thru.
'Form follows function': an extreme example.

Hello- my name is Ernie aka E.B.
and while searching for things about Ray ,
I stumbled across this topic ! Wow..
I was still in my teens when Ray and * I *
stayed up all night painting the " Higley - Hubbard - Werner "
" BLACK Metal Flake --- and Ray tripped out with flames ! ...

We didn't discuss the fuss < ? > that was happening with the
partnership at the time. But that is what prompted Ray to
ask me if I wanted to help paint it.

I had worked at " Carlsbad Auto Body " next
to "Raydon Welding " on State Street in Carlsbad CA.
at the time..... WOW......... finding this topic blows me away !

I remember vividly the tall Winter National Trophies
Ray kept in the shop next to the cots - I often slept on..
Ray would take me along for midnight runs where he would
weld up broken tractors/field equipment etc. in his Old 52 ?
Chevy Truck with the huge Lincoln Welder set up on the flat -bed..

Think all he had under the hood was a 327 small block ?
Ray also towed me from San Diego to Carlsbad after I bought
a 53 Studebaker -for $ 75.00 after he checked it out. Ray
towed me down I-5 at about 80 miles and hour - and we only
had a short "rope" --- OMG........ FLYING ......
CRAZY RAY ! ----MISS HIM so MUCH ----

Was Great to see the old picture
with the "Higley - Hubbard -Werner " markings
Yes I helped Ray paint it Black Metal Flake ---
and Ray made the ~ Flames in Gold - --- ~~~
This link would look like the body color did
after we painted it around 1968-69 ? The image is
of an unknow --? but sure looks a lot like the after paint..
" Blower/ Intake looks different etc.. but the flames make me
think of Ray's that night ! LOL.......

    Is Richie still around ?
A Shout out to Richie -
    E.B. Says Hello ! --
Hope this post makes it and helps any ?

Met and talked with Porky Gastellum (sp?) a couple of weeks ago
And at the age of 83 he looks like he could be in his 50's-60's....
We shared stories about both Ray and Sam ...
Porky said he has painted the Higely Hubbard and Warner ---
And laughed when I told him about Ray and I staying up
all night doing the Black Flake and Flames...........

  14. Good stuff @ErnieBirdie, its funny how searches always seem to bring you to this site. Unfortunately the original poster has not been back. Stick around and check the rest of this place out, full of good stuff.

Thanks Wraymen ! New to this place and sure found
some great discussions. My talk with Porky
brought Ray and others back to life.

And oddly --I ran into Porky again this morning.,..
He said to tell the-- WORLD -- he's open for more customers
as he was working on the fenders of an old 40 something
Ford truck. Had another old Ford 40 something truck lined up
and sitting outside. Did I mention ?
How much I miss Ray Higley ! --and the slower "daze" and the sound of the Old T-Buckets - UNCORKED-- SPITTING FIRE !
Still hard to believe Porky ( Leo Gastellum is 83 and ALIVE )
    Thanks Again Wrayen !
