  1. UPDATED PICS! Mounted a electric engine with a gearbox to move the mechanism of the bead roller... pretty cool idea...

That is an impressive facility you have there Shane. I studied the details of your machine and they look well built and well thought out.

  5. Bringing this thread back up with a question.

Seems like the pressure (gap) adjuster is usually on the bottom so it's easy to change wheel pressure with your foot while you continue to move the metal == no flat spots.

I've currently got about 50% of my wheel built (10X6 I beam back bone with 6X6 square tube arms & legs & diagonals) Getting ready for the wheel mounts.

I'd like opinions about top adjusters or bottom.

    Thanks >>> Movin/on

  6. I have definitely seen it done both ways. The biggest advantage I can see with the bottom foot operated tensioner is if you are wheeling a large panel that requires two hands to control by yourself you don't have to take the work out of the machine to increase the tension.

I think big wheels should have bottom adjuster and small should have top...But you will get people that swear by top only...

This is my E-wheel i have been building for a while, i started out eith 2 sheets of 12mm steel 2400x1200 and used 200mm x12mm flat plate. Oxy cut it out and rolled the flat plate round the shape, I will cut out the mouth at the end so it can't move out of square while building the adjuster and holder in place. I purchased Hoosier lower anvils and had a local company make a 250mm x 75mm and a 300mm x 100mm top anvils. I have a cheaper e-wheel that i use which gets me out of trouble but is probably keeping from finishing the other one.

Shane, do you just sell the adjuster off that big wheel?

With just a little reinforcement that should make a serviceable wheel.

How about a George Kendrick E-wheel? I love these cast framed wheels. I'll never be able to afford one. I have to envy other people's! Really a cool piece!

(for sale in classifieds if interested)

The Tommasini wheel including price of Andrews anvils comes in around 4K, shipped from Australia. If you want to try one out, make a road trip up here one weekend or there's also one or two in Rock Hill SC.

Has plenty of balls....enough for this 16 gauge panel on a 1947 Biederman fender...

Found this wheel about six months ago. Got lucky with the price. $1600. Scraped off old stuff and threw on some new paint. Ready for use.

I made the patterns for a bench Ewheel here in Sydney in 2012.
I was attending a resto course at the local College and one of the teachers Vaughan asked me about making a pattern for himself and his mate Georgio to make a wheel each.
As I had a machinist mate I said I’ll make the pattern Hugh can Machine them and you pay for 4 castings.
Short story ......There has now been about 40 cast locally in Iron. Look up Motorretro.

I modded the pattern and had mine cast in Al.....just because you could.
It weighs half of a cast iron wheel, the boys got another done to take to car shows etc.

First post here and I’m a bit of a Luddite but if there’s interest I’ve photos of the pattern in construction somewhere.

Lots of bog for the fillets.
When I had the Aluminium ones cast I modded the centre spine from 1” to 1 1/2” by adding some 1/4” ply to both sides. The fillets were redone in plasticine as it was only meant to be a one off.
Also a better photo of the Al wheel, I had the casting heat treated so whilst not as stiff as the iron it’s ok for an amateur like myself.
A few iron casting ready for machining.
Plus a photo of the Al casting just out of the sand, runners still attached.
