Hey FR, Nice find of your dad's old FED. That yellow Torco FED was one of our favorites when we saw it run at Lions Dragstrip back in 1959-60. Sorry, I had to make the newpaper print into a B/W photo for clarity. Innovations back then for early hot rod/drag race guys were pretty cool. By the time we saw it at Lions, the innovation had changed to a different set up, but the basic powerhouse FED was setting records left and right. It was an amazing build and powerful FED. The first yellow Dragmaster car isn't Dean Moon's car. It's Roland Leong's first dragster. Danny Ongias was the driver. By this time Dean had switched to a top mounted blower as seen in the last photo.
Hey S, Nice find on the old film of mine. I was trying to coordinate the supplied sound given to me. that added sound came from the same Yellow Torco Herbert Cam Special with one film clip that I had made, with Gary Cagle driving. So, I did not notice the 300 Chrysler. He had one of these and Tommy Ivo had a new Buick for his FED push car. What a little sponsorship can do back then. Jnaki That Chrysler 300 was impressive, but look at what is next to make a smoking run... a custom lowered Buick Sedan. The Buick's owner probably just took off his spinner/flipper hubcaps and opened his side pipe/down tube exhaust outlet for a run. It took all kinds to make a fun day at Lion's Dragstrip back in the 59-60 era. Good times, indeed of early drag racing photos following the HAMB rules of 1965 or older, not newer.
The front engine is an aluminum 215 Olds and the rear is the Buick variant. Pontiac used the 215 Buick in the Tempest, they did not have a 215 of their own. Everyone BITD captioned photos of this rail the same way, based on the lettering on the cowl and M/T’s association with Pontiac I guess.

Taken from the spectator side of the track because Jersey law stated”No one under the age of 18 allowed in pit area. Hazguy I had that problem every time we went there to race in the early 60’s. I was there in I think it was 64 when Garlets ran 199 and 200, it was a Div 1 regional race then, I watched from the spectator side also. I was 14 then. Great memories! Pat
The red ‘34 racing the Fiat is the Blood & Cavil Special, one of my favorite cars as a kid. It would often do wheelstands like Ditmars Lil Screamer did so of course us kids were big fans. bchctybob Photo of the Blood- Cavil Special is Pomona NHRA Winternationals in 1962. Roger Blood and Charlie Cavil towed their altered all the way from Alexandria, Virginia to California and won the C/Altered Class. That was a long tow for two young guys who had full time jobs.
The late Bobby Lagana running Chevamoco Chevy powered Falcon. This car is restored and showed up at the Dover nostalgia drags the past few years. Pat
So I was eleven years old. My Dad took me to the Winters in '62-'64 but after that it was harder to get him to go. Looking back, I think I may have entered that "mouthy teenager" stage and he didn't think I deserved to go. They stuck me in military school in '63. Oops. I didn't realize that they came all the way from Va, wow. They sure made an impression on one west coast kid.
