Thanks theBo'b another piece to the Puzzle Dad got the Ardun from Dick then Not Bob As I had thought. Its still all there but it doesnt look good for finding the original chassis. I did talk to Bill Scott last week he was very helpful and said he had a bunch of pictures of it he would try to help me out on any details he could.
My dads health and memory arent real good anymore so Im trying to gather as much info as I can to try to do this. Dad seemed to think the car went to Kentucky or Tenn too and a few years ago actually went down there trying to find any info on its whereabouts but had no luck Mike

Too late,, I called Dickie, He says the car was dismantled, the body is in Hanna City Il. It is supposedly in good shape.

Terry Northrup dismantled the car and sold the chassis, not sure were it went.

Dickie said he'd callme back when/if he remembers who has the body.

I believe Bob Baugh bought two Heidelberg roadsters from Dale Hoffman and Glen Collins. They ran stock block 365 HP 327s with Enderles on them and a bunch of pop. Were 1320 Middle Eliminators (or some-such) for a while.

I bought the 15" Halibrands with Firestone racing ribs and chrome 39-40 hubs from Scotty for $100 for the pair. They had been replaced with the 12" midget wheels.

Our Bonneville roadster is white, too -- like my old friends Dale and Scotty's were.

I have a picture of it at the 57 OKC nationals with his matching F100 push truck. Got it from a post on the HAMB.

used to watch Scottys T, John Bradley,s [mr. flathead] rail and the 'Old Heidelberg T' run at Colton in the 50,s. Scotty had a dyno at his shop, and all the locals would get thier cars tuned there.

I have many pics of the Scotty Roadster, we (The Contenders of Redlands) were the car's club sponsor.

    Hello Russco,

We are all interested in how this search for the rebuild is going since the thread was started in 2009. This roadster is such a part of hot rod history that it needs an update. So far, there are some great photos of Scotty’s Muffler Roadster. Are there any new ones from your decision to build? If another one is recreated, we would all be interested in the build.

I was a teenager with a movie camera, on an all day trip to my first drag race at Riverside Raceway in 1959. Back then, it was a long 2+ hour drive one way from Long Beach, with a car full of other older teenagers. Since I was the youngest, I hung out by myself using the movie camera as support. What an exciting day. All of these years later, I was glad I took some movies of the race cars back then.

This is a short movie clip of the Scottys Muffler Roadster, but it is 58 years old. Almost as old as we all are…or are getting to be.

Thanks for sharing that! That's a great little clip of the car. I'm kind of on hold with it right now I have enough info on it I think to build it but I haven't been building anything of late due mostly to health issues I've been going through. I had some disks removed and 3 vertebrae fused I still am not back to feeling like working on much yet after a year. The good news is I have the hard part to get covered (the complete engine with both induction set ups). I also have been thinking ofbuilding the car my dad ran it in for a timetoo. ( it would be much cheaper and easier to build but not like the T roadster that was so popular back then. Anyway thanks for the interest I still hope to be able to build some version of the car that the engine ran in. Here is the front engine dragsters mydad ran it in. IMG_3366.JPG IMG_3367.JPG

Talk about bringing up an old thread. I just thought I’d share an update. My Dad passed in mid January of this year at 87. We have decided we will probably go ahead with recreating the Scotty’s car. I’ve still been gathering info and pictures. We’ve decided we are going to keep all of dads cars in the family and I’ll probably be the caretaker on this one, so I’m going to move forward. I’m going to need some specific information. Hopefully there are some old timers and pictures that can fill in some of the blanks. It looks like the body itself is a ‘23 and the turtle deck would be a ‘23-‘25? I gotta admit I don’t know much about the Model T stuff at all. 1 guy was telling me the front axle is a V-8/60 axle but it doesn’t appear to me that it is. I always assumed it was a fabbed tube axle. So my starting point is going to be locating a tub and turtle deck and starting the chassis. The oval tubing I’ve found several sources for, all in 4130, but I can’t tell if it’s the same shape and dimensions as the old wing struts were? Anyone know for sure on that? It’s going to be a very slow and long build.

Another thing I hadn’t thought about but was mentioned elsewhere was, if we’re going to recreate this car there may be issues with the Scott family and if Scotty’s Muffler Shop is going to be lettered on the car I should get permission from the business that is still in operation today. Bill Scott has passed now but when I last talked to him he was really cool and helpful and said he would help me out with whatever info he could. His brother George is still alive. I have tried to contact him and am waiting to hear back. I can’t imagine them not wanting me to do this. But I think it’s probably a good idea to let them know I’m starting this project. I don’t know if there would be legal issues with the business if I were to put the Scotty’s lettering on the car (as well as the Evens Speed lettering on the other side too)?I guess I should just try to contact everyone on the car from the pics and let them know what’s going on. I never thought about this aspect but with all the old cars being brought back or clones I would assume this issue has come up?
I’ll keep everyone posted here and I’ll probably start a build thread when we actually start the building process. Wish me luck. BTW if anyone out there has a chrome shop that would like to be a sponsor for this project, I’m super willing to work with you

Man those are great pics that I’ve never seen before and reveal some detail in areas I’m unsure about. One of the issues I’ve been struggling with is the fuel pump hitting on the front stack. That’s the best picture I’ve seen of the fuel pump. I’m also still not sure about the shocks on the front and the rear axle mounting. Thanks so much. I know we talked a little about it when we were chatting at the HAMB Drags a couple years ago.

Scottys on one side, Evans on the other. Scotty sold the car to Bob Baugh, a foundry owner from Illinois. The engine was separated from the car, and went into a dragster. Last I knew the engine and the T still existed, just not together.

  21. Russco, my condolences to you on the passing of your Dad. That is good to hear you are moving forward with the recreation of the Scotty T. Here are some photos from Ken Crawford. Front axle is definitely aftermarket. Body is '23-'24

Bob Baugh was a friend of my Dad’s. My Dad bought the Ardun with both the blower set up and stacks to run injected only. The Chassis and Body as far as I know is long gone. The Ardun has been in my Dad’s possession in unmolested for about 60 years. We have been searching for the body, it was rumored to still exist but we haven’t been able to find anything on it. The latest info we have I believe was verified by Dick Brogdon is The chassis was said to be cut up/destroyed according to one of the previous owners of the chassis/body that bought it from Dick Brogdon. Dick ,Bob Bough and my Dad all raced and ran together back in Springfield/central Illinois in the 50’s 60’s when all this transpired.
Edit: the Heidelberg Speed Shop T ended up here too. My Dads Buddy Don Hughes lost his foot when the clutch came apart on it during a pass. Bob Baugh owned it at the time, it was later owned by the Paoli’s.
It’s whereabouts were known somewhat recently, but the body is gone and the chassis is unrecognizable it’s been updated several times.

Great pics! Thanks! There appears to be some type of friction shocks on the end of each frame rail I’m looking for any details from those. They always seem to be just out of frame in the pics. I’m also trying to figure out how exactly the rear axle was mounted. It appears to have a singe radius rod running out to the end of the axle on each side?

Thanks, I tried for many years to get him to re create this car when his health was still good. I’m also wanting to recreate one of his JR.Fuel Cars he ran. With the chassis he had the Ardun in when he passed. He ran the Ardun briefly in A/Fuel then went to a Small block Chevy.

Front axle with a dead perch is probably from a sprint car.
