I figured I’d make a post uploading some of the 32 ford sub rail pictures I have to help out others. I struggled to find pictures of complete sub rails since my car did not have a complete set, so I had to make them from pieces. I didn’t find too many pictures on google or here. Wanting to help others who might be in the same situation, so These are a bunch of pictures I’ve stolen from friends cars, Instagram, here on the H.A.M.B., etc. Hope someone can gain from this post. I have more but figured these were some of the more important. If you want to see more, ask me and I can post a few more that I have. Thanks for looking!

" To let moisture out"? Is this a fact? How is that supposed to prevent moisture getting in?

Haha, Maybe I should have cut all the words out and shown just the picture itself on these. These are all just screenshots I took then posted directly here.

Yes, sort of a gravity drains on many early Fords. Roof insert, quarter windows, rear window, deck lid...none of it was absolutely water tight.

I used 32 roadster rails on my five window and they fit pretty good they were 1/4 the price of the 5 window rails. they are not long enough but they work. That is going to be a nice car when it's done I'm subscribed 20170811_200832.jpeg Screenshot_20210303-231312.jpeg

Roadster rails interfere with the coupe door bottoms in the rocker sill area but they can be modified to work

I agree completely. I’m going through all of that right now on a 5 window and just when you think your getting close, you do something and it throws everything else off. It should go without saying, but everyone do exactly what “19Eddy30” is saying and leave everything loose till your happy. Especially if your cars on the rougher side like mine is.

Yes you are correct but not that much work involved to make it right. The only difference I see is the length of the cowl and length of the doors on a roadster are shorter but then again my doors are made of air on the bottom so I'm just making the doors fit the sub rails

The first photo you can see the rails will need to be extended to the front of the cowl. In the second photo you can see where the post marks end up in front of the b pillar about 2 inch difference. Just posting for any one who is interested. My car was rotted into the ground so there was nothing on the bottom. I used turn buckles to square it up. I measured the body lines to the frame my friends 32 and then used those measurements to keep it square to the frame. Image%20(6).jpeg Image%20(7).jpeg Image%20(8).jpeg

FYI gbones, the subrail is supposed to stop at the back edge of the firewall foot like you pic shows. The outer skin of the cowl is all that spans that gap. No subrail up to the cowl band.

Oh ok well did not know that I'm doing things a little different on my car because my body is going to have a hinge on the back so I can lift it up out of the way to work on the engine. So I'm making mine a little stronger. Remember you guys do not always take my word for things I do not always know what I'm talking about.im I'm here to learn and listen.

It will be real hard to get your firewall out now. It's hard enough when there isn't a subrail running under it.

On one of my 32, I removed the Rivets (replaced with button head bolts )in the firewall legs so I can remove bolts & legs cowl bolts. So I can remove firewall with out lifting body.

    Hinge on Back ??

I like that simple cut on the 2x2 frame rail setup bracket to clear the beauty line. .

    Hi V8-m,

    - Gauge is 16
    - 15-11/16" center to center of the two channels
    - Cross chassis width determined by the mounting bolts of the sub-frame to the main frame.

Boy I wish these replacement sub-frames had been around when I did my roadster! I had a friend's original 32 for reference dimensions. I modified a Tudor sub-frame from a great one I bought in Ronan MT. Lots of metal forming to create the roadster sill plates.

    Hello again,
Glenn, thanks measurements from you I've made cross rails. It would be awesome if somebody could measure rocker panels. I would like to make them too.

Nice job on the sub-rail cross members!

These are my notes on the sills. #1 starts at the back of the door with equal spacing to the front. Get yourself the stainless sill plate finishing pieces which will help in getting the sills made.
