question i purchased a below decklid panel for a 29 roadster off e bay seller, got it in and a few weeks later i went to install and it is not as tall as my original one, which is over 9 inches tall and the one i received is 7 1/2 inches tall. is there a difference in coupes and roadster panels? for a 28-9 thanks for your help
Rusty I was just wondering what the proper name is for the under trunk panel not the tulip... I was joking the tulip panel looked like a tulip...not
https://www.mikes-afordable.com/category/1110B.html Via this the Roadster is in fact taller than the Coupe panel...link takes you to that page but its visually evident... Note see left and right entries center is 30/31
28-29 Coupe & Sport Coupe 7 3/4" 28-29 Roadster 9 1/2" 29-31 Cabriolet 9 3/8" These measurements are from Mike's. Differing slightly from my measurement of a 30-31 Coupe & Roadster they list 9 1/4".
Yep, in 28-29 the roadster is taller than a coupe. If the original top inner horizontal brace in the one you took out is still good, you might want to reuse it if you get another repro panel. Some of the repro panels are pretty cheap and their braces suck...so use the old one if you can.
This Goose has been cooked...hopefully he can trade it off...or return it as Ebay has policies if it is not as described...they're $84 bucks or so...I hope he didn't pay too much for it...
Slight differences are common with all aftermarket pieces as well as orginal Ford parts depending on the origin and date of manufacture. I measured one from Howell's that I just installed. With only a 1/8" difference from each seller, that is nothing to worry about. The seam sealer will make that slight difference disappear. The real difficulty with those panels is the "buckle twist" they can develop if care isn't taken when installing. Very visible in the finished panel if not corrected on assembly. I agree on the cheapness of the re-pop bracing and supports but we tend to use what we can get if its not feasible to make your own or re-use the originals. It's a bummer the OP got the wrong one.
@hot rust you could be different and run Whatcha got...and add a lid extension to make up for it...maybe it looks better...more room for putting in lawn chairs and a 12 of Water or any desired beverage...
