I was staring at my horribly rusted bumpers, wondering how nice it would be to afford to re-chrome them. Because of the cost issue, I know I’ll end up painting them. Then I got to thinking, if I’m gonna paint them, why not weld the bolts in place from behind, grind off the tops, and fill and smooth to create a nice smooth bumper? And if I could afford new chrome, it still seems like a cool idea to do before re-chroming. I started watching for this on car show “You Tubes”, and noticed it doesn’t seem to be a very common practice.
Pretty common on HIGH DOLLAR builds not so much with driver quality cars. Chrome is expensive, especially if you send yours off and they need work to correct dent's & accidents. Avoid companys like bumper boyz that flash chrome that doesn't last even parked in the garage, I traded my rusty and tweaked bumpers with tri city plating out of Elizabethton, Tenn. form beautiful bumpers for our '54 Wagon and was pleasantly surprised they were very competitive and at that time I was able to inspect the bumpers at the swap meet and carried them home that day. HRP
