Little known fact there; she worked as a mechanic and driver in the British army during WWII, the Big One. After dealing with dodgy Lucas electrics, fragile transmissions and oil leaks for 4+ years she was just happy to be in an American car even if it was built in Oz...:D

Ah Lucas electrics. On older Triumph motorcycle lighting we referred to them as "Lucas Prince of Darkness".

  5. I heard that Lucas started off in refrigeration, and that is why the English drink warm beer :)

Likely true. I heard a rumor they were in charge of MI6. British Intelligence did leak secrets during the Cold War. ;)

While we are visiting the Queen, let's have a look at another car with the steering wheel on the opposite side. 1955 I'm guessing - round clock or radio delete painted blue? Probably more than a few trips around the block with the color worn through on the steering wheel. How about the different colors on the dash, windshield trim, and trim by the vent window? Door panel removed. Newer bucket seats with headrests removed? There must be some good stories to go with this car!

    Brings back memory's.
I worked part time at a Gulf station, in '70. The building floor plan was the same size as that but, a mirror image but, it had 8 pumps with a cover, on a busy street. Gave "Green Stamps" with purchase. Anyone remember Green and Blue Chip stamps?

I can respond that I worked in a TEXACO station, mirror image, 1966, green stamps, $0.35 quart glass bottle bulk oil on the island, and 6 pumps with a cover. Gave green stamps and they were a pain in the**** as we ran out regularly and I got******ed at by the ladies! $0.28 regular, $0.32 ethyl and we were higher than some. Owned by two brothers and we did everything from oil changes to valve jobs, rebuilt starters and generators as well. I learned a LOT from working there, wish there were places like that where kids could learn a trade today.

So they were rusting out in the rear quarters within 10 or so years of manufacturing? FB_IMG_1615930320092.jpg

Yup. No manufacturers used galvanized steel like they do now.

In my younger dumber days I was running liquor between East Texas and Louisiana. I would always fill up in Texas since our gas was cheaper, but one night I was low on fuel and had to fill up in Many Louisiana at 33 cents a gallon and I was so mad I said "I'll never pay that much for gas again". Then a few years later the Oil Embargo hit and I've had to eat my words ever since.

Actually within 2-3 years in some locations. That why California and Arizona cars became what everyone wanted. California cars near the beach parked outside could go 8-10. I've lived in SoCal all my life and bought a true Az car and you car really tell by the frame. Not the front crossover everyone worries about which is perfect but there is no acne on the rails or any where.

It is a little tall and clumsy looking. Is this one any better?

At a dirt track no less..that I didn’t know or even think about....good taste on which car to sit on.. She had a Watson painted 57 Bird so. She may have been a Ford fan.

It doesn't look like a dirt car so, it could be Irwindale, maybe?

If it ran Irwindale it ran Corona too. Your right it’s pavement so it could have been Saugus too. I should have said “circle track”

The 67 car was in a race in the movie Thunder Alley. One view during that race showed lots of dust kicked up like it was a dirt track . Different scenes showed the 67 with and without the black outline. Maybe different cars were used when filming different scenes? Maybe they combined clips from races at different tracks when making the racing segments of the movie?
