Jim McNiel's family just posted on Instagram that they are going to put the Hirohata Mercury up for sale. Will be interesting to see what it sells for being this is probably the custom car of all time. If you have lots of dough you could own an icon.
Would of been neat to see it run across the auction block. Better than the stock market for an investment standpoint. For them anyway. I have seen the clone at least 40 different times. But the original is, all I can say is wow.
I agree. But you can understand it from the families point of view. Would love to see this end in somewhere like the Petersen.
The car is more iconic than the Batmobile. Look what that brought. But it doesn`t have the super hero status.
I'll go a dollar 295 and 75 cents, like many I would love to own that car, Way out of my $$$ range, a collector will buy this and it will be well taken care of I'm sure, curious what it brings, somebody post up if/when they know
He said he was trying to sell it privately and is trying to avoid going to auction. He also said the Peterson has shown interest in buying it. Like I said it is posted on Instagram. It doesn't sound like he is advertising a price. Word gets out that this is for sale and all the heavy hitters will know in short order no need to advertise.
You might be right about that. On a side note, I know I am probably the only one on the HAMB but from all the legendary early Kustom Mercs this is not my favourite by far. I never liked the colour combo, I also think that the front looks odd and I am not too fond about the rear lights either. Looks like a giant bubble-gum.
I saw the Merc at Pebble Beach in ‘15, it took home the marbles. It will be interesting to see what it brings and where it’s new home will be. A side note: what is the correct pronunciation of “Hirohata”? Article from RJ on Pebble: https://www.roddersjournal.com/portfolio-item/pebble-beach-concours-delegance-wrap-up/
