I would contact the police and at least get a file started. I would do some investigation with the local business camera system to get a license plate and id of the perp. The insurance company could go after the idiot and have their license pulled for a hit and run offence maybe even impound their vehicle. Vic
I agree with Vic, although here in Anchorage the cops probably won't do a thing. Cars are hit and stolen all the time in this town and nothing is ever done. I would contact the PD not because they will do anything but to protect yourself from the potential of the perp lying about the accident later. I never park my ride in this town, its sure to be damaged in some manner. Anchorage is basically Portland of the north.
Don't know insurance requirements but if it is considered a hit and run claim wouldn't they require a police report?
Yeah, I would check cameras, and pursue it out of mere principle. I get so sick of pieces of shit getting away with shit. Get the evidence, and let your insurance company deal with it. That's part of what you pay them for. Sent from my VS996 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You need to go after the jackass. Police ,cameras etc. if you don’t then you are helping whoever be a jackass! Just saying. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The police don't seem to have the time or interest to pursue a small accident. If it was witnessed and the driver appeared impaired then they might take an interest to stop them from getting into a more serious accident. I was hit by am impaired driver and his car was disabled. He wreaked of alcohol, sat in my truck to stay warm as it was -30 with his car disabled to stink the truck up then sat in the cruiser with 2 officers. I found out later that he was only charged with failing to stop. His lucky day. Had I not sped up to avoid him he would have got my wife. He hit the back edge of the door, cab corner & box for some serious damage.
da34guy, as a former insurance guy, as well as specialty car insurance user, some policies will not cover a loss if the car was unattended. Interpretations of what "unattended" means varies by agent or company, but I have been told that if you are not standing next to your car or in it, it was unattended. Another agent told me that if I ever went to grab a cup of coffee, make sure that I was always watching my car because then it might not be considered unattended. Normally the only time this exclusion is lifted is if the car is part of a official car show and you can prove it. Again, all of the above normally only applies to specialty car insurance policies, not necessarily your regular consumer plans. Sorry for the damage and cowardice of others.
Similar issue happened to my daughter, and we needed a police report before the place would release the tape of what happened. Not sure if it is a law, or the places policy. But regardless, that sucks.
Dang...sorry it happened.....at our burger joint hang out one of our custom buddies got the same treatment late in the evening....he vowed never to return....
@da34guy , this ^^^^^^^ You may be leaving youself open to a counter-claim by them, even though it would be bullshit. You definately don't need that hassle....................
People absolutely, positively suck..... Present company excepted... Got plowed into at the dump a few years ago... asshole backed up fast, and with me screaming at him, knocked the shit out of my OT, then almost new truck. I'm lucky I didn't get my ass kicked, the way I talked to him, and leaned into him. He could have stomped me pretty easily. But instead, he gave me his insurance card, and I calmed down, slightly, while I was writing down his info. He had State Farm, or so I thought. So do I. I don't know if other insurance companies do what SF does. When they send a bill, the insurance card for the next 6 months is included, every time. He hadn't paid his bill, and he had no insurance, but he had the damn card saying he was covered. I never found him, the prick. Sorry about your car. The person who hit you is a lowlife thief in my eyes.
All ways call police get a police report, I had a similar experience an similar situation ,I did not call the police Very very minor damage to my vehicle and the person that hit me , Later that day turned around and reported it to their insurance claiming I hit them ,it became a big ordeal, but luckily there was cameras by luck they even work
Over here a private car park is classed as public land whilst ever the business is trading. Got this info straight from the Police. At least get it reported to the cops to make claiming easier.
Don mate. sorry to see damage at a rod run the No99 hotrod reversed into my red coupe you can see the distance between us his comment "sorry did not see you parked there" he paid for the damage $2500 Noel
This is why you always call the cops if you get hit. Had an old biddy back into my 51 Merc in a parking lot years ago and while I was absolutly pissed I didn't do anything and later wished I had called the cops as at least her family may have made her quit driving. Had a 93 year old neighbor who drove past the house about every day turn in front of a semi a half mile from the house and get killed a couple of weeks ago. He may have made it a few more years if someone had taken his keys away. He drove his old brown car past the house at about 35 mph most days in a 60 mph zone.
That’s too bad it happened. Are the pictures at the scene of the hit? They must have been playing on their phone to not see your car.
Well, yeah, that's one way to give an update ........ A little confusing, don't you think ??? Could you not have typed the info into post #49 instead of the cryptic clue - "Update".....
I don’t think it matters too much where it happened. Hit and run is still illegal, at least I hope so. Police probably won’t do much though but a report and help getting a look at the camera could go a long way.
Sorry to see what happened. When we lived in Oklahoma City years ago while I was in the USAF my wife worked for an insurance company. The state mandated proof of insurance to renew car registration. Wife said many would take out insurance for the insurance card then cancel it once they had their registration I assume they have ways of monitoring that now days.
