    Got valve Guida yesterday
Now I can get the valves in and start the flow bench work on the bowls and match up the ports

Asking for prayers for Jimmy and his wife today as Bernice has some health issues and Jimmy has been gone all week and not able to finish the cylinder head hopefully next week will be better for them.
We had a good work day at my shop with Dave, Dan, Sam and myself. We worked on the rear suspension to raise the rear of the truck another inch to get more rear end travel. And did some wiring mods to relocate the control panel box for better driver access. 20210320_150307.jpg 20210320_150342.jpg

Setting up the crank trigger for precise timing
This is critical to get it just right 20210322_143732.jpg 20210322_143726.jpg 20210322_143711.jpg

Curious what you are using the dial indicator for?

    Interesting,
The only way to be 100% is with a degree wheel and a piston stop.

When I built racing engines I used a dial indicator to measure 0,2 mm (8 thou) off top dead center on both sides, TDC is in the middle of these two readings and I'd say this is pretty much exact.

X2 ^^^, as long as the indicator is centered over the pin bore, to negate the effects of piston rocking.

Piston stop takes that out of equation.

I used a degree wheel and piston stop to find TDC and marked the harmonic ballancer.. when I first built the engine. I just needed to verify they were still accurate for timing plus I like to know how far down the piston is when it fires. I have found that long rod engines like a little more timing than a short rod engine. This engine has 0.300 longer rods than stock. I look at piston position for the initial setting of timing then let the dyno tell me where to go from there.
Just need to know the base line as a constant to come back to if needed.
Everyone has there own way of doing this and this is how I have done it for many years and it works well for me.

Great. I’ve found it pretty easy to get what you want by size once you figure it out. I would have thought the catalog would have them near the back but none I have do. Looking good..

I might add that David is not a first time supporter of the XO/PP 640 Project and has supported us in the past
    Can't thank him enough.

Jimmy has not been in to work except to keep Patrica and myself lined up with what needs to be done. I am coming in every day to help out not just 2 days a week as before. Jimmy's wife is having health issues and needs constant attention.
He did come In yesterday afternoon and fit all the valve stems to the guides on the 640 head. It's been really hard for Jimmy and his family so please keep them in your prayers

Dave Russell and I decided to go ahead and install the engine so we could work on some of the other things that need to be done. We will install the top end once the head is finished. Doing what needs to be done as time is running away from us. 20210410_153801.jpg 20210410_153610.jpg 20210410_153741.jpg

Jimmy came in over the weekend and cut the new oversize seats in the head.
I'll blend in this work this week and then we can finish grinding the valve seats and then it's on to the flow work and runner to runner ballance. Getting closer, I also ordered the new driveshaft to fit the new ******.
Sorry no photos of the work this weekend as I was not there. But I will photo the results tomorrow and post them
