near as I can tell the C4B with 4 holes was first in 1965, here is a 1967 ad for the C3B and 3 Barrel carb

  2. @Moriarity to clarify, the C4B (1965) is earlier than the C3B (1967) based on ads you've found, right? Any idea when the C3BX was introduced, and what the X designates?

I found this 1970ad for the C3BX and it says that the only difference is on the inside of the runners, so the one you posted earlier that I thought may have been an "error" manifold actually is not and is an earlier version of the X manifold than the one I have......

My C3BX with the dual carb bolt patterns, the choke pad and without the bulge in the passenger's side. It does have the coil mounting bosses. Sorry about the pics, it's dark in that corner of the shop.

C05A789B-9BF7-437E-96AD-591BB2011E7C.jpeg There would not have been a C4B if not for Bob Joehnck, he was a lakes racer and all around hot rodder running a garage in LA. He knew both Vic Sr. and Jr., he may have even worked for Sr. at some time.
Joehnck saw the need for an aluminum 4 barrel SBC manifold and he asked Vic Jr. if they could collaborate and cast some for Bob to sell at his Joehnck Automotive. It took off and Vic soon saw the need to add it to the Edelbrock catalog.

Yes, it does. And, seems it is the “400” special as well...at least according to someone that thought carving that in the manifold was a good idea...

Here’s a big block version. C396 note the Holley 3 barrel notch in the plenum divider

My C3Bx. The swap vender I bought it from warned me a HEI wouldn't fit before I bought it, though I never tried it. My 327 ran very good with this on it.

  10. I had a C3BX but I think I gave it away a few years ago. I did buy a C3B in fair shape and put it on the '41, it does have better low end power over the Offy 360.

I've had a bunch of these over the years; the one I wished I had kept was the "4-holer" carburetor mounting. Currently, I have a C4b and a C3BX; the C3BX in on a 327, and the C4B is just waiting it's turn at something. Boy, there's a lot of minor differences I never knew about. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  12. I have seen C4B's and C3B's that have had a notch carved into the rear runner to clear an HEI. I have never tried to run that combination, so I do not know if the notch can be made large enough for an HEI to actually fit.

I recently saw an ad for one of these manifolds that had a patch welded over the rear runner where someone ground through it trying to make an HEI fit.... I don't know why anyone would want to run one of those damned ugly things anyhow....

Didn't know there were different versions, the Edelbrock Windsor F4b is the most extreme example of different runner lengths.
    Here's my 3BX.

Now to work out which one Dad had back in the day.

They must have made an awful lot, of all varieties, of these manifolds...

I bought a polished one that I assume is a C3B, it has the 3 barrel notch, single Holley only bolt pattern,no holes to mount an ignition coil and the thermostat mounting area is way over on the drivers side, and the fill tube is angled off the other way which is opposite of all the other C3B and C4B and C3BX's that I have, I wonder what the idea was there?

20230924_172904.jpg heres mine with "custom" coil mounting bosses.

  20. That's like mine, I have only seen a few of the pass side oil fill and that's what I needed. All the ones that I saw for sale were out the drivers side. I can't find the other intake but I was wrong on it being a C3BX, it was a C3B and I found pics of it (notice it's a drivers side oil fill).

No clue but I know the 64/65 Winters L79 intakes had the oil fill angled toward the passenger side and the 66/67's were angled toward driver side.

These have always been my “go to” hot rod intakes. Either way passenger fill or driver fill, a great performing manifold : 4A9D1B6F-1AE0-40AC-8FFF-0989248C2F7A.jpeg 881CA0D1-EDCE-455C-8C20-E61C7EA03FC5.jpeg

Hey Guys: I have a C4B manifold that does not have the bosses to mount a bracket for a stock sized round coil. What are you all using to mount your coil on this manifold? I'm hoping to avoid mounting my coil on the firewall. Thanks in advance.

Have a C3B that will take an HEI. Just ground a small amt. off the rear runner so it would turn--works great.

  26. Is this a decent intake? I have one on my 327 and was thinking of a change, but I’d rather keep it if it’s decent.

The L79 intake is fantastic. I surely wouldn’t change it

I have a C4A manifold. Does anyone have any info on those. I would love to have a L79 intake.
