Technical 49-54 chevy power steering?

  1. Question: After all these years, why has nobody come out with a widely available power steering conversion for stock suspension? I mean, I've seen the rack and pinion kit, but for some reason nobody thought it a good idea to keep producing it. I've seen other kits that have come and gone, but nothing has stuck. I would think that someone somewhere would come up with a good solution.

Which brings me to my next question: Jamco is now offering an Ebay kit. They have had kits before, but they pulled 'em for whatever reason. Anyone used this kit? And ABS says they have a kit but its only good for the 6Cyl. I have plenty of customers who don't want to go M2 up front. neither do I, but I sure would like to make the car a lot easier for my wife to drive.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

There is another kit that uses, I think, an Astro mini-van steering box. You might find it on that auction site we all know and love. If you don't find it there, check with drew1987, here and over on ChevyTalk.Org; he's researched it quite a bit. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  7. My 38 Chevy has a GM power box with a 39-48 Front End. My dad made a custom pitman arm for the stock drag links. I'll try to get a pic. Not a bolt on deal, but a solution nonetheless.

  8. Should have added, on my 50 fleetline I clipped it with a jag front cross member.

drive great and it was cheap rack and pinion steering 4 piston caliper etc and it was a bolt in!
As @junkman8888 said rebuilding and hopping up the front suspensions on these cars gets really spendy .

I looked into the cavalier rack set up , but the jag clip is cheaper with way more benefits.

IFS frame clips, mustang 2 IFS and rack and pinion are all off topic here
