    hi
    i just installed this 700r4
    it has a shift kit

i adjsuted the tv cable with the pan off
i know that at WOT the tv plunger should be fully depressed in the chamber
but here at WOT the tv plunger is not completly in ( see picture )
its not stuck because with my finger i can rotate the lever and fully depressed it
at the carb when i pull the cable with pliers , and someone else looking under , its still doesnt get fully depressed !!!!!

side note , the tv valve spring is very stiff compared to a stock one

previous stock 700r4 i didnt have this issue

    any idees?

    nothing
just a different 700r4 with a shift kit
i also used same universla cable

but no im wondering if the housing cable , transmission side , doenst stop my cable
    because now
when i think, that with pliers , i could not get it to move more .
i may have to double check that

Correct geometry at the engine is critical, the transmission end is the least of your worries. You need to have the correct bracket for TV cable and the cable needs to be set up correctly at WOT. T700 TV cable setup diagram.jpg

It's a tongue in cheek comment about keeping it simple. An old racers adage is to use a turbo 350 up to 400hp, a turbo 400 up to 600hp, and a Powerglide up to no one knows since they live behind a 5000hp fueler engine. Not mentioned is they are a two speed and no overdrive BUT simple.

  10. If you pull on the cable with the carb linkage ‘at rest’ - Does the plunger bottom out?

Could be the link is getting bottomed out inside the cable housing at the trans end. What type of universal cable? There were some that didn’t work out to well.

How about that stiff spring? Did you put the shift kit in, or was it already in the new trans?

Powerglides can be built to take a ton of HP, but they're sure not much good if your car doesn't have a ton of HP! A TH is a great trans in either variant, but without the OD it's lacking at high speed, unless you have tall gears. The 700R4 is not able to handle extreme HP, but it sure makes a great all around transmission. And changes a decent cruiser into a great cruiser. Not to mention fuel efficient, even with low rear axle ratios.

Where is the plunger in relationship to the arm, when the cable is at the idle position?

yeah this is what im thinking
i got an universal one from summit, that wasnt an issue with previous 700r4
i just got a new one today a B&M and i can see the cable is going just a bit deeper in the housing but not much...like 2mm

Yes - double-check. That’s the right starting point. From there, the plunger will bottom at WOT when the throttle arm geometry is correct.

OK, your original post has a couple of statements that led me to believe this transmission has always had this issue.

    "i just installed this 700r4"
"previous stock 700r4 i didnt have this issue"

i ended up making a little plate/spacer and also added an oring and it did the trick

i got a new cable b&m and it was still the same situation

its still interesting that with the other 700r4 with same cable it didnt happen

on the pictures you can see tv plunger at idle and at wot , all fixed now
