Yep... kind of a fun thread.
Also kind of an ironic thread.
Most of the actual HAMB-friendly stuff remains popular with us.
But I've got one that might fit.
6x2 intakes.
They're only appropriate for certain era builds. And I think a lot of guys avoid them because of the tuning challenges.
So you don't see a lot of them. Even among our ranks.
But I think they're my favorite intake system. I like all that jewelry on top of a big old V8.

 

Add Italiamechanica superchargers to the list.

 

They may not be popular but on the right vehicle (the Pusher for example) moon discs are perfect on a street vehicle.

I have always liked white headers to look at. I don't run them because they are always dirty on a daily driver and I mostly have owned daily drivers.

Here are a couple that are really "trad" friendly and no one uses any more.

TT chassis rails (I'll see if I can find a better pic later), they are heavier and taper on both ends.



and the Model AA truck chassis rails (poor mans deuce)




Both chassis are heavier then the car chassis and flex less. I guess that is mostly a performance thing.

 

Cadillac LaSalle transmissions.

Adapters to mate an overhead valve V-8 to a Ford transmission. Most of the adapters today are used to mate those same engines or flatheads and some others to later transmissions.

My '56 Meteor came with blue ones which I intend to put back in whenever I get that car done. However the intended purpose of them will not be realized by my wife or anyone else

 

I still love Moon discs, and have them on my daily driven Morris Minor.

 

Fuzzy Dice, I still like them and have them in my 51 Merc.

Got red fuzzy dice and a hula girl in my DD, and black fuzzy dice in the coupe.

 

Looking at a lot of the photos that people post of their cars, I think traditional shiny paint doesn't seem as popular anymore. I find that very sad.

 

Are wide 5 wheels more popular now, than in the 40's and 50's ?

Well there is a good question. For me, 50 years. I had one I used all the time. Since I never throw anything out, I thought maybe I still have it. So I went up in the attic and looked through some old boxes with "treasures" from my youth and there it was!! It has changed a little over the last 50 years. I remembered it as a white, soft and furry. Apparently there are some parasites in the attic that had a good meal from it. I showed it to my wife and she said " that's disgusting! throw it out!!!" No way, I am keeping it!!! I think I'll hang it from the rearview mirror on one of my cars and see if she notices it.. It is stamped "Lucky Charm " on the ring part.


I also found another item that lived in my glove box 50 years ago. My Sur-Snap Switch Blade Knife. I am not sure I would leave that in my glove box today, but it was fun seeing it again. I would have never used it but it was a cool thing to have in your car back then. It still works fine. How many of you guys had these in your glove box too?

Marty, Not sure about the wide 5 wheel popularity more popular now than in the 40's & 50's, counting all the 36-37-39 Fords that were on the streets & the scores of the same on nearly every fairground dirt track around the country, not to mention the scores of 32-33-34's-track 'T's & others that were retro-fitted with wide 5's it might be debatable.
