I've been tempted to go with a t5. I already have 4. 2 s10 boxes and 2 camaro boxes for my 48 f1. I'll wait and see how the new engine goes first. I'm hoping I can get a hotter cam so I can support dual carbs, but like you I'm researching and trying to ask questions.

Bringing this great thread back to the top. I'm about to (finally) address the rear brakes on my car. Would you recommend removing the backing plates before working on them? When I did the fronts, I kept them on the car. It would be nice to put the brakes together on the bench and then just bolt them back in place!

P.S. How's the roadster search coming along?

    Hey Joey!

I also did my front brake work on the car. (I still haven’t swapped in my drop axle yet.) I rebuilt my rear brakes with new camshafts, cams, track assemblies... It is an off-the-car, down to the backing plate type of job. To replace the track assembly I had to grind off the old rivets and heat the new rivets red hot and swack em with a hammer. I had one rear brake that was in pretty bad shape. The rebuild made a huge difference. My brake shoes were in pretty good shape so I haven’t replaced them yet. Be sure to replace the rollers and toggle pins. I swapped out to cast iron drums all around and new wheel bearings while I was at it. I also swapped out all of my brake rod pins with new ones.

I do have an update on my roadster search. I found one in Maine with help from a friend here on the H.A.M.B. It is a mostly complete, original 31 deluxe. I think it is maybe a bit worse condition than your was in - floor pans are all rusted out…. I’m going up north to grab it tomorrow. Road trip! TM 0F81E641-A4A8-4C74-86FC-AD0D72C8EEFC.jpeg

Those aren't old cars, those are just used cars.

Thanks Elcohaulic - I’m having too much fun with Model As right now. Besides, I’m a Ford guy.

It looks like the bug has bit you hard!:D

    This is my opinion....

Let that Roadster be the A-V8.
Keep the Coupe as a Banger car with the banger, mechanical brakes.....the whole nine yards...

I've been following this from the start. One my concerns was you doing too much and going too far with the coupe.
Keep having fun with that coupe pretty much the way it is and build up your V8 car from the roadster.

  12. I agree with F-ONE!
And................ I dig what you have done and are doing to your Coupe!

I have the same thoughts! Love driving the coupe.

Body is coming off the roadster to prep for AV8 build [emoji2] still need to decide on what parts. What year juice backing plates and drums will work with my old Rusty 35 wheels I got from Dustyp489? F1 steering box? Good running 59 or 8BA flathead and trans.... I have a 1948 banjo rear end. Will I have to go open driveshaft or can I still do torque tube? I’m still working out what is compatible with what. I have more research to do.

My two boys want this thing to sound venomous. Me too.

This thing may look TROG worthy for a bit(which is cool with me). Paint is bottom of the priority list. However floor pans and seat are near the top!

Picked up the roadster from my new buddy Paul in VT today. He trailered it a couple of hours down from Maine to help shorten my trip. I ended up making it a two day trip and stayed the night at my friends house in West Hartford. My wife talked some sense into me. “Why are you trying to drive a thousand miles in one day? You should stay over somewhere.”

I’m glad I listened to her. It made the day more enjoyable and I got to catch up with a good friend. Now That a have a bit more time I have plans to drop by a fellow H.A.M.B.er’s shop tomorrow morning on my way back south. These cars are awesome but the people you meet and friendships you build are the best part.

Looking for good running 59 or 8BA flathead and trans. F1 steering box (I’ll probably need a steering wheel too) and juice brakes.

    Oh... and a seat. Ha!

There is no good reason to go 6V, I would definitely build it with 12 V!

First start. Just having fun seeing if the Banger runs. Plan is still to take apart and build an AV8.

    That’s awesome !
Mmm. 2 banger rods and a third for the V8....
Model As are like rabbits. They’re reproducing!

Just think....a few months ago all you had was a Wrangler and now you have a hot rod coupe and a roadster!

Looking for a chopped Roadster windshield. The frame on the one that I have is rusted through. I’m not too concerned about the condition as long as it is structurally sound.

Also looking for a 1931 Roadster Title. Mine unfortunately didn’t come with one.
