Event Coverage The 5 finalist for Hot Rod of the Year at Goodguys Nashville. All HAMB friendly.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by garage2small, May 29, 2021.

  1. IMHO there should be two categories of HROTY. One for pro shop built cars and one for built-at-home by the owner cars.

HUmmmmmmmmmmm, only thing that showed was just 32's? Need clarification, or is the south land just that bias??

Two opinions that aren’t worth flip:
That roadster is perfect! Screams Dana red.
I would pick either the YBrock coupe or Kirby Kennedy’s or Ryan’s over the grey one.
That grille hung out in the breeze just ruins it.

  4. If these were true southern rides they would have Boyd wheels, an 80s gm steering column and tweed interior. Possibly upgraded to late model pullout leather seats.

I like all five of them but that blue 3 window has a serious lets go on a road trip look to it.

@seadog Danny did build his car. Even the fittings.
Granted his garage isn’t like most garages lol

  7. Man, that grey thing has a schnoz that would give Jimmy Durante a run for the money. To bad they screwed up the proportions, beautiful fab work.

Sure like the sedan. Stands out among a bunch of coupes IMO

  9. The majority of the nearly twenty cars that entered the HROTY competition this year were indeed ‘32s.

The “non-Deuce” entries were made up of a ‘70s style T-Bucket, two Model As, two Model 40s, one ‘37, one ‘38, and a beater pickup truck (most of which are not very HAMB-friendly).

  10. What the Chenango Forks are you talking about putting caps on the wide fives?!

The red roadster looks different depending on the lighting. I prefer the first shot that makes it look like an old Indian Motocycle.

I'd have to see the interiors and engine compartments to decide between those two.

Lol I like them way better with no caps. I guess I’ll pull them off my side when I drive and when you drive you can pop them back on lmao

    Great looking ride.
Wonder what the steering geometry gurus think about these two?

  20. It seems that 'hot rod of the year' should be picked near the end of the year. I guess they had their big meet. Someone start a HAMB Hot Rod and Custom of the Year thread (near the end of the year).

  21. It seems Goodguys spaces out the “of the year” awards at various shows. I think it’s a great way to space out and attract the best cars at multiple locations for the show season.

Pretty sure @TexasSpeed works at the shop that built the winner. Can’t be mad at that!

  24. Boring? Model A's on Deuce rails & 32's have been at the forefront of hot rodding since the term hot rod came into being, fast approaching 90 years the Deuce has been the quintessential choice for many over the years and continues to stand the test of time.

I fell in love with the 32 Ford when I purchased my first one when I was 12 years of age, there must be lot's of guys like me because the manufacturers are still going strong, look at all the steel body's being reproduced not to mention all the fiberglass company's building 32 Fords.

90 years since the original rolled off the assembly line and they are still gaining in popularity, I don't doubt there are those that hate the 32 but they are here to stay.

There are many cars that make great hot rods and I personally have owned other models and makes but have never found the Deuce to be boring, JMHO, HRP

They were all excellent builds. I like the 32 3 window best.

All nice vehicles, but I would like to see the odometer readings before I make up my mind which one would be the winner.

I don't think anyone is hating on 32's, or taking anything away from the cars here, but I kinda agree.... It'd be nice to see more representation. I found the lineup boring as well, tho obviously all the cars are awesome and well done. There's hamb cars I'd much rather own than these....
