Dont really care for the smell of this old used stuff that is stinking up my garage right now. Prefer the smell of some VP-C25 or maybe some honing fluid from the old Sunnen unit.
Into her clamp?!! That’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard that part referred to!! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I recently completed a modification to my roadster that had it on the lift and me under the back of the car for a few weeks. At some point while working, I accidentally ran my head into the QC which had a drip of lube escaping on the rear cover. That dab of goo in my hair had me smelling of gear lube all day, everywhere I went. Nothing I could do other than wash my hair with Dawn dishwashing detergent.
You know ,,,,it’s almost funny ! Traditional hot rodders worried about the smell of gear oil . What in the world have we turned into,,,,,? It’s not that I love the smell,,,,,but it’s not the worst thing in the world . And besides,,,,aren’t we supposed to get a little dirty working on our rides ? I remember the smell of 90 weight from when I was a kid,,,,helping work on my dads heavy equipment. It was like a badge of honor,,,,,made me feel like I was one of the men . Getting dirty,,,and smelling like the guys . Anyway,,,,I guess the real days like that are over,,,,,have we became so soft and cuddly that we can’t even stand a little smell of work on us ? Like I said,,,,,it is not a great smell,,,,,but if you wash it off,,,,it will fade in a short while . It is nothing compared to the nasty black mess that is old fifth wheel grease,,,,from a road tractor,,,,,it won’t come off . Tommy
BINGO... I have the 7.5 and 10 mil ones from Harbor Fright and use them for funky cleaning jobs. I pulled the rear end pumpkin out of my Ford on a cold March day, figured I would use my gym Harbinger glove, they have no fingers. It took a good soak in Pinesol to get the smell out... then I was stuck with the Pinesol odor....
I find that prep- sol works good on cleaning hands as well as prepping for paint! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If you are driving a stock car in the main and you smell burned gear oil... best hope it is not yours. It was usually the foreshadowing of someone losing a rear wheel or axle. I've seen axles sliding in & out of cars I was following... scary.
We always referred to it as Eau de 90w....used to get it in my hair as a teenager all the time....Mom loved it on the pillow case and sheets...I think it has a half-life of100 years.....
funny stories...i just remember it took what seems like a life time to squirt it all into the plug hole in the diff housing...sulfer smell..i like it..
I found McDonald's hamburger grease highly effective for cleaning oil stained hands and transferring it to your mouth.
He's in Indiana. When I was driving truck, every time I went across the border into Indiana I could smell those hogs. They raise a hell of a lot of swine there ( pigs for the common folk ).
A friend of mine who ran a heavy truck body shop, washed his hands in lacquer thinner every night. That probably isn't good for you so he went to the tavern (the front of his body shop is his tavern) and indulged in the antidote.
Yeah! The last one I bought is an old 1950 coupe showing 40,000 on the clock but I was unsurre if it was 40 or a hundred and 40. I popped the cylinder head off it yesterday and the cylinders have no ridge!!!! it's a real 40 thou mile car.
Look at that beauty,,,,,,,a straight eight,,,,,,awesome ! It should have a ton of torque,,,,,looks like it will rebuild nicely . Tommy
