Cleaning the 390 FE engine up a bit, in anticipation of installing new valve covers, I found a couple of vacuum lines not going anywhere. The one coming from under the choke was going towards the back of the engine under the shock tower brace. (I moved it to get a better picture. ) This copper tube has a fitting on the end that appeared to fit some kind of snap clip. I can't find anything on the back of the engine or the manifold where this would connect. The other hose goes into a junction block mounted to the intake manifold which is connected to a larger hose that appears to go to the transmission.
I ***umed that this Holley carb was original to the engine, but maybe it's not?
It seems to run fine but I suspect that the choke is not working.
Any ideas on where these should go? 20210604_162714.jpg 20210604_162700.jpg 20210604_162935.jpg

Well first guess is the wrapped copper line goes down to the exhaust manifold somewhere to bring heat up to the choke spring.

The copper tube goes to exhaust manifold to supply heat for the automatic choke so it will work properly. There should be a hole for it to press into.

The other hose in question appears to have an inline pcv valve in it. That hose is probably going to the back of the intake.

I didn't see anything on the exhaust manifold, but I will look again.
    Thanks for the replies...

Is it under the plate with the screw? I see a tube running out of that...

    I found it, thanks Squirrel...
Now, should I run the rubber hose to the air cleaner or the valve cover...

I don't know where the rubber hose might go. I can't see the whole engine, so I can't really tell what's going on in there...and it's been a long time since I worked on a 62 Tbird, I forget what all they have on them.

I will have to look tomorrow. If it's a crankcase breather I would think it would run to the air cleaner .

I'm thinking that this (at the end of the arrow) is the tube on the manifold that Jim showed.

The bottom photo being a fully Restored 61 with the Vacuum T bird enigne (2)_LI.jpg T bird enigne (3)_LI.jpg 1961-ford-thunderbird.jpg reservoir tank over on the inner fender.

Man, can I relate to that! I have always been a Chevy or Pontiac guy up until now. The learning curve has been steep.

    Haha...my first Ford I worked on much is a y-block. I don’t even get that benefit. ;)

One more very good reason to own a factory shop manual when you own an old (or new) vehicle.

That vacuum reservoir could be for a/c, cruise control. I missed seeing that hose when I commented earlier about pcv hose.
