I just bought this 53 customline and I'm trying to decide on what motor and transmission to put in. Preferably whatever is the easiest I found an 89 crown victoria with a 302 and AOD, should I go that route? Also it looks like someone put some type of power steering/assist is this correct? any ideas?
That power steering looks like a stock Ford 50's set up, I think the factory put it on. Look in the sticky pages and there is a bunch of information on engine swaps into 53 Fords.
'93 5.0/AOD in a '54 Customline. Motor and trans mount swaps. Easy, peasy! As stated, the sticky has tons of info. Will you be running carb or FI?
Great combination using this kit with the 302/AOD (Butchscoolstuff had this kit but sold out to Shoebox Central now they are pretty much out of stock) UPDATE ! See the Post Here for updated parts https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/53-ford-customline.1232213/ Post #17 Check out these pictures. Also the '89 donor has the correct oil pan to use with this kit. You can see the AOD sits right on the stock '53 cross member with some redrilling, you will have to do a bit of modification to the tunnel depending on which shift linkage you use There are also several headers you can use without any modifications.
These mounts would work also correct? Thanks https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/media/albums/289-302-351w-swap-mounts.41498/
How hard is it to keep the EFI? Found a Mark Vii That has a motor that looks exactly like yours, that EFI makes me a little nervous with all those wires lol
NO, Those mounts are for 1954-59 Fords 1952-53 front suspension and mounting is totally different as '54 and later went to IFS suspension. Like I stated before ( See Post #6) you need these for a 1952-53 Ford UPDATE New part numbers are in Post #17.
Not as difficult as you might think. I know.....looks like brain surgery! It's really not. All it takes is patience and one of these............. The wiring diagrams can be had off of Ebay for $20-$30. It's just a matter of tracing down each individual wire, checking for damage and continuity, eliminating what doesn't need to be used and shortening or lengthening certain wires. It's really not difficult when the harness is removed from the donor car and it's laying on your bench. The ECU is mounted up underneath the dash.
Ok Cool thx, I would be buying a Donor car so i could label ever wire. I do have an original factory power steering setup that i was hoping to use with the 5.0, wondering if i could change the v pulley for a serpentine pulley and that would work?
Where can i get the motor mount kit for a 1953 ford customline now that butchscoolstuff is no more? donor car 92 Mercury Cougar 302/AOD (See Private message "Conversation" I sent you)
I think I remember hearing someone bought out the remaining inventory of ButchsCoolStuff and is selling it off but, this old memory is very faded. Maybe another member can elaborate. Jeff? ( That was Shoebox Central, they bought Butch's inventory, but a lot of that is sold out, See Post # 17 for my update)
You can get the mounts from Speedwaymotors.com but not in a kit, Shoebox Central bought Butch's inventory now most items are out of stock. These are the Speedwaymotors parts numbers. 91036400,7209314,1353294 the AOD transmission mount is an ANCHOR 2253 your local O'Reilly's and PepBoys will have those.
Looks like the website is still up. https://brockmanscustomparts.com/index.php/engine-and-trans Since some of these swap mounts now seem to be in short supply, I would call in the order to make sure you do not run into a back order situation before pull out your credit card online.
So I picked up my donor car yesterday 92 Mercury Cougar I would like to get started pulling the motor and transmissions but would like some advice on doing so. Can I use the donor wiring harness or will i need a new one? If i need a new one what do you recommend. Any and all advice appreciated!
Jeff provided a good link. Yes you can pull and use the factory harness. Be careful and try not to damage any clips or connectors. You'll need to clean and inspect each wire individually along with ohming out each wire as you go. This is your most important tool........ 1992 FORD THUNDERBIRD MERCURY COUGAR FACTORY WIRING DIAGRAMS SHEETS SERVICE | eBay The wiring diagram is absolutely invaluable! It'll also help you decide which wires to eliminate. Some may have to be shortened or lengthened too. When all laid out, it looks like brain surgery but it's really not. It does require patience though. Once the harness is pulled from the donor car, it's best to have a table and chair set up so you can lay it all out to clean and inspect. You can do it!
I tried opening the pdf links on Greg'66 5.0 #3 post and they don't work for me, do they work for you guys?
