    I think @58prostreet, Bob McCleskey has one of these. They make cool hot rods, IMO.

  3. That wayfarer body style is one of my favorites. We have a yard here with several and I always would stop and look.

    Plymouth had a similar fastback model
    Can’t recall the name, but I think the model designation was P19
    Cambridge, maybe?

    I dated Linda Dodge for a while. She had nice lines, as well.

    You are thinking of the Plymouth Concord. These were Plymouth and Dodge's cheaper, short wheelbase line. Plymouths were available as the Concord 2 door sedan, a pimple top 3 window coupe and a 2 door all steel station wagon. Dodge also had a Wayfarer roadster (convertible top, no side windows).
    I agree they are less stodgy looking than the regular line, but Plymouth and Dodge didn't get any real good looking cars before 1957, or 1955 at the earliest. Although the 56 Fury was pretty sharp.

    dodge and plymouth. They're both stodgy, compared to other makes. But they look better than some of the other Mopars. The Plymouth looks better from the back, to me

    No, "stodgy" is a poor description. "Frumpy" would be better.

    I think stodgy is correct as it rhymes with Dodgy. And weren't those slopeback Plymouths called the Cranbrook?

    I too like the early '30s and '40s Mopars. I have had a few '50s Mopars that I like!:rolleyes: My 1940 Dodge Deluxe Business Coupe fits the class.:) '40 Dodge 17.jpg

    Could be, but when you stuff a hot 440-4spd in them they become bad ass stodgy Dodges:cool:

    I was a '49 Wayfarer owner in 1966. I never got a complement on the style.
    The flat 6 ran through a fluid coupler and a standard shift 3 speed. I never got a compliment on the acceleration.
    I must say, however, that the rear seat area was more than adequate;)!

    I'm a hardcore Ford guy, but have had a couple Mopars over the years that I got in trade.

    A '40 2-door turned phaeton...with no top. Had to build a fiberglass roof for it before I could sell it. 40.jpg 40b.jpg


    And a '41 "coupe-ster" with "frenched" EVERYTHING!!! Too odd for me and traded it for a Model A body. 41a.jpg 41b.jpg

    Plymouth and Dodge have had better lines than Ford in many years. In the early 30's the Ford would have to be chopped to have the proportions of a stock Mopar, same in the 40's. Compare this 48 Plymouth with the 48 Ford. The Ford is bulky, boxy, and out of proportion with a tall. akward windshield. The Plymouth is sleek with a low top, short, laid back windshield, and a long decklid. In the late 50's, ford had nothing for the forward look Mopars. If you can't see it, you have an anti-Mopar schotoma.

    Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Some of the Mopars look out of proportion. Especially the 40s IMHO.

    That said, there have been many on here who dont care for the 59 Ford which i own. To each theory own. Virgil had some outlandish moments, and that's cool too.

    '59 Ford; they were advertised as "The World's Most Perfectly Proportioned Car".

    I'll leave that alone.

    When I was in the tenth grade (1957), one of my older brothers friends had one of these, nosed, decked, and lowered with a split manifold and duals. I loved 'em then and still do.

    Bud Rich Molica had a white '58 Ranchero in '58. Very detailed, raised up 2", wide 15" steel wheels w/Firestone Daytonas on it. A 'cameo beauty'.
    Soon after, an 'upper classman' bought a black '59 Ranchero...He brought it over for the 'crew' to look over.
    Our own resident wiseass, Mileaway, took a walk around the new '59 and said, "Man, those taillights are Growin'!"
