My low buck builds with OEM USED cast GM would crack skirts running to 7K rpm.. Street driven, weekend track runs. With loose ridge cut bores..the $300 build. 3yr layer it took 0.030 bore to clean up. 2x broken skirts. Ive never heard of a 283 forged piston coming apart... usually valve train, con rod does them in.

Competition Eliminator engine builders can direct to you what small bore engine reliability components to use, from Super Stock to maximum performance combinations. A D/MP 277 ci chevy was running high 8s as a record holder. Thats winding it tight...

I under stand the kind of stuff they do. In the mid 1980's I was doing some work in a shop that ran a Indy car. Cosworth V-8's, now that twisted tight. This is all about using up left over parts to build a "sport touring" type car. I'm not looking for max hp. or I'd stuff the destroked 400/6-71 blower motor setting in my shop into this toy. I have 327 parts, 400 blocks and all sorts of stuff. The 283 punched .070 with '462 heads and solid cam should get into the 350 hp. range and will be plenty for a 2500 lb. car with 4.11 gears and a 4 speed. This is ALL about road use, not just cruising or strip.

my fed buick 350 and 671 uses trw forged 283 std size pistons with roush nascar 1.888 rods. got them off ebay for $300. run them up to 7500 with no issues. the rods were $200 ebay.
now forged 283 pistons are over $1k ''because they are special order''. yeah, right

Same type of thing going on. The forged pistons that were in the 283 are going in a 307 block with 400 rods. Just using up parts to build engines and either sell them or use them. If the 283 block wasn't already at .060 and pitted I'd use some hypers and be done. I have a set of .070 being made and yes, it'll be $900 with pins and rings. I already have the rest of the motor so not a total bummer. It's only money and my advisor did tell me to start spending it before I'm too old to get any enjoyment from it.

Building a replica but “better” of a pals 292 ci sbc for high rpm. Went .060 , 292 ci, had block decked , torque plate honed & align honed , steel gm crank chamfered & put slightly on loose side , using .125 dome k black hyp euctectic or “ slippery” as a pal says, pistons, because those old gm / trw/ sealed power slugs are heavy on rotating mass, but stout, , light weight h beam rods, etc. I focus on 2 main things to keep it together , connecting rods & valve springs. If you can avoid contact between piston & valve & rod separation your wallet will be happy I’ve learned as few decades ago. Flux
