when I built my 55 I bought Posies rear springs. I am thinking that I will replace them to raise the rear of the car some. Trying to decide if I should have the originals redone at our local spring shop or buy new ones. I talked with the local guys who will put them back together with the original cloth inserts for $165. Also spoke with General Spring guy who said that theirs would come with the same, $260 a pair. I kind of****umed that the cloth could be replaced with plastic sliders but they seem to indicate not. What has been your experience?

I used the plastic sliders on mine. If you're having your originals re-arched, just provide the plastic liners to the shop. Or, have the shop re-arch each spring then give them back to you. Put 'em back together yourself with a couple of C-clamps and install the plastic liners.

I took my originals apart and cleaned /painted them. I had the spring shop put them back together with plastic sliders and stainless steel bands holding it all together.

How many plastic sliders do you need? Do they go between each leaf?

May be just me, but I can't see how a 60 year old spring can be re-arched and expected to last very long. The '57 forum guys, like me, have pretty much used McVeigh's Truck Springs for the rear leaf springs. I believe their eBay name is Spring King.

I agree Rich. I tried to buy a pair from KC Spring but they said on back order. I thought they were made in house but they said not 55/56. So had our local spring shop redo mine. In the past they have been excellent but not so now. When I called them they said $165, I asked if that was reached, painted with new clamps and sliders, they said yes. When I picked them up they were almost $300, $165 was labor only. Lesson learned late. Plus they are about 1/8” different in height. New only now.
