I have always liked the " SHELL " logo.
There is an even cooler one that is related to SHELL aviation products that might look cool on the door !
Feel free to manipulate it on the colors that you have chosen via the patina look ! The flying A logo would really look cool as well !

Hurry back Joey, these guys are building your car on your thread with no input from you. Next thing they will be there in SF , knocking your garage door in and invading with compressors hoses and spray gear..or brushes. by time you get back home you will own a street rod with purple and yellow pastel paint straight out of the 90s!

  4. No no no, it's his car! I was just bored at work and decided to tag in with the whole paint topic.
Joey's car is perfect as it is in my eyes, just needs those chrome banger parts installed!!

    In my opinion:
Fake race numbers, fake speed shop lettering, and random logos painted on cars are the new crybaby dolls and A&w drive in trays. They should be avoided at all cost.

I'm of two minds about those... at the end of the day if your car isn't a legit, period, survivor hot rod, it's a pretender no matter how authentic a recreation it is. We're recreating the real deal and the real deal often had numbers, names, speed shops (even fake/jokey names), stickers, logos, sponsors, etc...

Sometimes recreations of those details make me cringe, sometimes they look right at home and help sell the car as a period piece... the effect depends on the builder's taste and execution.

Joey's attention to detail and thought process for selecting parts means that if he decides to slap numbers or sponsors or stickers or a fake speed shop on it, it will be another part of the "story" he's looking to tell with the car and will feel 100% right at home. And if he doesn't, that will be 100% right too.

I could see the Gray with Copper trim, here is a cruddy Paint quickie.
I bet Señor Ukrop has a better plan.
I didn't bother with the Purple/Yellow/Teal, many of us still have nightmares about those choices!

That's my favorite side of the engine, love that picture. At least you're not asleep at the wheel. I'm not a big fan of FAUXTINA. There are times when it can work but certainly not as many times as we see it. :D

Yeah man someone’s gotta be bullshitting in the garage while Joey’s going threw the house to the front door to pay the pizza guy.

You’d think he’d know to just go to the garage door by now. Must be a new guy.

Thanks 41, I figured a gasoline logo would be fitting near the Fuel Filter/Bowl...I had fun with this...I put trim rings on the wheels as well, a little shiny for a more formal street presence...the color is also a Pale Leaf Green...I will try to match the 40 as that was Joey's preference after all...Thanks for yours and the others input...its a momentary glimpse into how it might resonate visually...

Thanks to everyone for the kind words...;)

Hey everyone, thanks for holding down the fort while I've been busy. Between work, travel, and out-of-town guests, I haven't been too diligent about updating this thread. Don't worry, that won't become the norm.

This weekend was huge for me. As I mentioned earlier, my folks were here from Michigan. I was so happy to finally be able to show them my new part of town and also explore old parts of the city in new ways. From the streets of Chinatown to the depths of the Conservatory of Flowers, we had fun everywhere we went. For me, however, the most memorable parts revolved around an old 1930 Ford roadster.

Both my parents are car people. My Dad worked at General Motors for 33 years, and my Mom drives a '61 GMC pickup every day. Each of them enjoyed riding in the car, although I'd have to say my Mom was having the best time. Everywhere we went, she waved at pedestrians and we were both laughing and smiling ear to ear. One thing's for sure—she needs a hot rod of her own!

This is what it's all about! Hi Mom! (This is a screenshot of a video that I may upload later on)
    IMG_7570.jpg
The following day, we tooled over to the Presidio for some driving lessons. It was funny because when you build your own car, you set it up for yourself. Nonetheless, they both did great. Talk about a proud son moment!

On Saturday, we drove the roadster to Golden Gate Park for the annual Old Car Picnic. Ever since seeing Joe Barnett in his Model A at the park in Rodder's Journal #17, this has always been a dream of mine. Getting to share that day with my parents seriously meant the world to me.

As a San Francisco resident, I spend a whole lot of time in Golden Gate Park (it's everyone's backyard!) I got a big kick out of seeing more than 200 hot rods, customs and street machines out on the grass. In a way, it reminded me of being at Pebble Beach. I loved every second of it.
    IMG_7600.jpg
Also, I was super excited to find out that there's another Model A roadster owner in the city. This is Kirk's Model A, which was originally put together in the late-'50s. It now runs a Vern Tardel flathead. I plan to do a photo shoot in the not-so-distant future. Yes, I was taking notes!
    IMG_7607.jpg
Crazy pickup with a blown flathead and a quickchange.
    IMG_7608.jpg
    I dug this all-original '55 Buick Skylark. IMG_7595.jpg
    And this far-out Corvette.
    IMG_7585.jpg
Everywhere you looked, you'd find new neat details. IMG_7618.jpg
Oh, and my friends showed up too!
    IMG_8708.jpg
Talk about a perfect day at the Old Car Picnic.

Thank you everyone for the suggested paint schemes. After mulling it over (a lot) I've decided that I'm not going to paint the car until I go A-V8. Although that may not be the most period correct thing to do, I feel like the current finish gives the car its own unique personality. Just like my previous motorcycle projects and David di Falco's roadster, I really like the style of having all your mechanical pieces clean/fresh/sorted but having the body in "as-found" condition.

That's how I first saw it—propped against the wall—at the Ice House in the Noyo Harbor last summer, and that's the vision I've had in my mind. Again, that could change. But for now, I'm running it.

Now, for some big news: I found a 1932 Ford frame for the car! Yama and I went on a whirlwind road trip to Oregon to pick it up, and he made a video of our adventure on his YouTube channel.

I'm really excited about this. I have some big things cooking, and I can't wait to get to work on it. That being said, I can't wait to spend the next year (or more) driving the car in its current 1940s form. As you know, I'm having so much fun with it!

    Anyways, more details to follow.

Your thoughts are entirely plausible in this Journey...It is Art...Zazzle......or is it...Dazzle?...remember that Thread? I firmly believe Hotrod/Custom are in huge ways forms of Art...Art that Rumbles and can be pretty Snappy...

Congrats on the frame and other goodies...1947 in the Cross hairs...one step at a time...
