What are you guys using for bumper-mounted license plate lights? I saw a couple 46-48 Fords with little domed license plate lights mounted to their bumpers thought they looked pretty cool, but couldn't find anything other than old camper lights.

  2. You can pick these up at NAPA for about 6 bucks apiece. HRP

Sold for bikes but clean, simple and chrome and not spendy. Ebay item 322350220548 under 10 bucks. If you aren't running a license plate guard on the bumper to hid a light they aren't going to look out of place. chrome license light bike.jpg

I've eyeballed those for long time but you don't always have a place to mount them with the plate mounted on the bumper. Some states are nit picky about a white light showing at the rear including the one I live in. They want the light to shine on the plate but don't want it to show from the rear.

One like the light in picture above on E-bay right now for 27 bucks, better grab it. It is a vintage Yankee auto lamp license plate light and bracket. s-l1600 (11).jpg s-l1600 (12).jpg

I'm using the same thing as jaracer. Comes to less than $5 when it is on sale at Princess Auto in Canada and it almost always on sale. I also am using them as courtesy lights that come on when you open the door since they draw very little power and I don't fear running the battery down.

I really like Speedway's stainless steel lite for $29.99, item 910-50175, I have it on two of my cars and I think it's very clean and simple and flows with the plate.

Another option is one from an OT English car from the '50's to '70's or so. Available as a repop from many vendors who specialize in English cars.

I've got one of those Yankee lights in my stash that I bought in Texas in the mid 70's and my buddy borrowed for his rather controversial 27 T with the 55 Chevy tail end as a turtle deck on it to go to the 75 Street rod national. The only time anything of mine actually got shown in a magazine.

You would have to find the magazine coverage for the 75 Street Rod Nationals in Memphis and look for the photo of the back of the car. He needed a license plate light to pass Texas inspection and I had that one so we stuck it on for the trip. It's somewhere in a box in one of the sheds missing it's lens.

I still have a new on in the box. Gave to my son for his 1940 Chev. He’s keeping the cleaned up rusty one on for now…

I bought a 3 led chromed accessory light at a truck stop and screwed it to a plastic chromed license plate frame. It blends in with the frame, and it lights the plate well. You can't see the LEDs as they are on the bottom edge. All you see is a square box on the frame. The two outer LEDs are angled outwards a bit.

I bought similar ones to this but I came across ones that have a red LED in the center so they not only light up the plate but they can also serve as third brake light.

Hard to see but just license plate attachment bolts with built in lights. Probably not HAMB correct.
