Mickey Thompson obviously knew his way around a performance car.
Did he feel this one didn't need headers or it wasn't worth the effort?

I read a story on this Mickey Thompson car recently and apparently he had 5 1963 Z06 and he raced 4 of them. He allegedly kept one stock and they believe this is the one he kept stock. It was originally thought to be one of the racecars but "experts" decided it was the stock example. It will be priced accordingly I am sure.

Some people seem to forget that when these old drag cars were built many were discarded old junk for the most part. The 57 Vette we built to run in gas cost either $100 or $200 in early 1967. With the condition as it was, $100 would have been a more fair price-it was a mess-not a restored classic. When Larry Teter built this 61 in 68ish the car was probably just a discarded old car and he built it for Lou Price, probably according to what Lou Price wanted. Not sure I would build it the same and I would have kept the top at the normal height, especially when Price had to sit in a rockered seat rowing a four speed with a BBC and no front brakes. Car makes me smile though.

If the truth be told, I would rather look at old Vette drag cars then NCRS show cars-that is just me though.

Me too, stock corvettes are boring. I still do not understand why so many bone stock corvettes get posted here in the corvette hot rods thread....

If there was a photo it’s probably lost in the photobucket abyss

@jimdillon, @Moriarity, a local Chevrolet dealer had a show before the pandemic hit and I noticed that there were row upon row of mostly new Corvettes, some with their hoods up. I could not figure out why you would raise the hood to show off a stock engine. There were about 20 HAMB qualified cars there. The biggest difference was that the Vette owners all had dockers on with penny loafers, Corvette shirts and hats, and reeking of Old Spice and Brut while the HAMB types were all in shorts, T shirts from some old drag strip or long closed companies, all with a slight fragrance of gasoline and a smile.

Chevrolet stopped making corvettes after 1967.......In my humble opinion

  23. For the record, i do not like “vette guys”. Hot rodders with vettes hell yeah! The ole 57 is sooo far from original i get a smile when people ask if the numbers match, yep the VIN tag matches the title!

When I bought my 61 10 years ago it had a state of Arizona re assigned VIN . That ruins it for the "real" corvette guys. It made it the perfect car for me because I wanted to modify it into a mild custom/hotrod just as someone may have done back in the early to mid sixties. I think cars should be for having fun with and not worrying about how much money they are worth.

I have been repeatedly criticized by a certain member here for posting my car too much.... but here are a bunch of pics of it anyway

  25. Vettes make nice custom canvases.
I’ve never understood why folks get twisted up over a well done custom, rod, race or pro touring ride.

Moriarity- your car looks great and post away. Some of the NCRS types seem to give some of the resto mods a pass but complain about a few mods on an "original" car. I do not get it.

With my black 62, which I have owned since 1977, I have had a few guys tell me it is a shame what I have done with it. On occasion I tell them it is #12 and maybe a pilot car just to make them cringe a bit more. I am not sure that it was a pilot car (the early cars built a bit by hand to an extent due to body changes etc) but I enjoy tweaking them a bit here and there. The next owner can do as he pleases but I am having fun. This past year I reminded myself that I have made over 100 passes on the drag strip with the black car and have enjoyed every moment. Whatever you have to do to enjoy the car is fine with me.
