Vic Edelbrock showed up at the first post-war race at Rosamond in October 1945. The event was rained out so speeds are unknown. And officially, the S.C.T.A. hadn’t re-incorporated so the organization had to reform. The S.C.T.A. held its first real post-war meet on April 28, 1946.
We see Sam Hanks as the guest driver behind the wheel of the unknown number 54 Red Circuit V-8-60 powered rail job at Bonelli Stadium back in late ’45 or early ’46. The URA (United Racing Association) Chief Starter was Harry Secrest seen behind Sam presenting driver Norman Girtz to the audience. The URA was guided by Roscoe Turner who worked at Bell Auto Parts. Some trivia; Before WWII the Mojave Timing Association was run out of George Wight’s Bell Auto Parts with Rosco’s help. After Roy Richter bought it Roscoe was put in charge of Bell’s tent called “The Oasis” that showed up at Bonneville for years.
Bill Brereton was in his early ’30’s when he was snapped at Huntington Beach Speedway by Ernie Lovingood receiving a trophy from a cutie astride a Solar kit-car designed by Elmer Ross and produced by Solar Aircraft right after WWII. Bill moved to So-Cal in late ’39 from Seattle and went on to win the 1940 U.M.A. Pacific Coast Championship before joining the Navy, being discharged in ’45, and going back to racing.
