Vern Slankard was the owner-driver of the number 26 Track roadster that took part in the June 28, 1948, California Hot Rods, Inc. races held at Gilmore Stadium. A flathead V8 powered the ’27 Ford bodied ride. Vern went out and cut a 15.65-second qualifying lap and made it into Event number 5, the Fourth Inverted Start eight-lap qualifying heat race of the night. He must have done something right and made it into Event Number 7, the Inverted Start 30 lap Main Event that featured 12 cars. All we know is Vern finished outside the top three in the Main.
