Now, a more exciting post, yes as at @Stogy the wise one figured out, there is a reason for this mass clean up. there is of course several reasons, Its an inefficient work space, and as any of you other slobs in the JHA would admit, its embarrassing really, when new folks come to my place for the first time. "lots of cool shit, but what a pig" I would guess they say on the way out the driveway! Back to the point, yeah, I bought a new project. I am a big shot 34 roadster guy now!!!! bought it off the hamb from @hotroddeuce. he was a pleasure to deal with, Item as described. Its a project, needs some metal work, came with lots of good parts. Some things are beyond my skills, but my new best friend Elvis 100 :D is going to help me with some of his fabulous parts he makes. Like many of us in the JHA group, I need another project like another hole in the head, but model 40 roadsters are special and seldom come up for sale in a peasants price range. Yeah, stogy, I am excited. The car really needs to come completely apart to fix the metal issues, so a clean work area is the best start. The car came with new B pillars, and I thought good wood for patterns throughout the doors and cowl, but I got a pleasant surprise the other day, the seller called me and said he noticed more new wood parts up in his garage rafters. Not confirmed yet, but we think the whole wood kit for the car may be there. He had been gathering parts for many years for the car, for example the nicely upholstered seats have a tag on them that says 1984, bought at a swap meet who knows when from a restored car that was being "customized" I presume. Anyway, yeah, model 40 roadsters are very, very, special. about 5000 made

Mild Hotrod Restoration mix perhaps...sorta late 30s, early 40s look?

Then you keep all options open should your mind change...but it's yours what are you thinking?

I like em like a kid in 1950 would have built. Buy it from the old man down the street, get home take off the fenders, hack off the muffler, big tires on the back...there, now you got a hotrod. I am not much into big horsepower, just a plain o'l ford is good for me. My 34 3w has a 59a with a merc crank and cam, light flywheel and its peppy enough to make me smile.

    Dang.
I thought maybe it was my turn to share at our little JHA meeting here.
But now that I see there's a method to your madness, I'm speechless.

Kind of hard to call it JHA when I see a lathe, mill, and now a nice roadster :) Congratulations on the purchase.

Yes, I'll keep y'all informed, but first gotta have a clean room to start with. Here on the frozen plains we have to get outside work done now, so I force myself to do a little cleaning each night. If I had done that thru the years, it would not be so bad now. But...I am sick of it, gonna try and get it straightened up around here before making a new mess

I'm still thinking skip the shelves and go right to pallet racks and a forklift assuming you have tall enough ceilings. Get a vintage Clarke or Hyster that is period correct. As long as you can use the forklift to clear enough space to store said forklift you are at least breaking even. Right? Or is this the type of self delusion that gets us into more trouble further down the road?

Or 3 forklifts lol.. This is Lil' Forker, a '47 Clark Trukloader, lifts 1k up 7 ft, and lives in the shop- 34" wide, so it will go thru a 36" door. Don't even have to start it to move it around, just push it. Actually has a tiny 4-cyl Continental engine

There were a bunch of retired old-school Mare Island machinists out here in my hood who have passed away, and the estate sales have provided lots of hand-me-down quality tooling. The last one gave me a loaded triple Kennedy rollaway, complete with decals from the nuclear subs the PO worked on

IMG_1033.JPG IMG_1036.JPG IMG_0821.JPG Thats a cute 'lil bugger Gene! I was going to bid on a WW2 vintage Crosley powered rig similar last year, but did not, then mad at myself when it sold for about 60 bucks. Cute, but needed everything. I do have a 5000lb pneumatic tire rig, and an 863 bobcat, and about 70 feet of pallet rack that is full of mostly worthless shit in the barn. Bobcat tears up the gravel floor, forklift does not

    Yep, I have a 4K fat-tire Clark outside, and an 8K B&B with 10' forks that is a great car/tractor lift

Not much to report today. I started on the lathe, got about half done. Half a 5 gallon pail of turnings just out of the front side. Some pics tomorrow when I finish. I can hardly look at that table, but its coming up soon. For humor, that dune buggy supply web site has a photo of a spotless clean steel table like mine. Many times I have been there visiting, and at the end of the day, or end of a project, my friend will say "watch this" as he sprays the table with WD40 and wipes it clean for the next project. The prick does it just to rub it in! I'll show him, by golly I can do it...I hope!

Can you just imagine it? His wife comes looking and finds him pinned under an avalanche of car parts, his hand feebly reaching out to place another item on the bench.
