While station at Ft Bragg as a PFC, me and another PFC were walking to back to the movie house. It was pouring rain and while walking we did not notice a car with a plate with 3 or 4 stars on it going the other way. Well the car turn around and pulled up next to us. Both of us figure that someone was offering us a ride. So we jump in the back seat. I notice a gentlemen sitting there with his uniform on and said good afternoon General and thanks for the ride. The Capt. who was riding in the front , got out and hauled our butts out of the car and started yelling about why we did not salute the General's car. So after every thing was said and done, the General rolled down his window and told us to get in and asked where we were going. Now the car was not as old as the one pictured here, but I think you are get the drift. Yea they even drop us off at the movie house.
In the 1980's we toured the Spruce Goose in California. Our then 9 year old Son was totally amazed by this engineering marvel and kept asking questions about most of what he saw. He got to meet WWII B-17 Pilot Kemp Forest who flew next to the Spruce Goose and took this image during the one and only flight the Hughes aircraft made. We still have the signed print Kemp gave our Son. Now in his mid 40's our Son is an automotive engineer.
