Thanks @Witchhammer . I remember that storm and it's aftermath very well. We were without power for about a week... but also without school! My Mom had the last laugh in our house: when my Dad built our house a couple of years earlier, she had insisted on a small smooth-top wood stove in the kitchen so she could keep a steam kettle perking during the winter. He always kidded her about it, but stopped laughing when we were the only ones in the neighborhood with hot meals until the power was restored!
One day back in the 50’s a Cadillac pulled up to Sheppard’s Imports in Tampa. The driver got out and opened the back door. An Air Force General got out and entered the dealership showroom. He proceeded to open the door of every Jaguar on display and sat inside a few. Afterwards he strolled out and got back into his car. Now normally the Owner Jack Sheppard SR would have a fit if someone did that without actually buying something. Later his son Jack asked “who was the big shot from McDill ?” It was Curtis LeMay.
