Photos of what they have to deal with would be interesting. If you paint over shit it looks like you painted over shit.

  4. Right now you are doing hard time. You have to first find peace. The secret is somewhat simple, yet hard to obtain, .... that is to forgive. Then you are able to move towards where you want to be.

I was until recently, Glasurit matched my OEM 2-tone formula with modern 2-pak after most other major paint companies couldn't, it was all too hard for them and my project suffered a major hiatus. I couldn't be more happier now, time to move forward! :D

It finally made Parole about a month and a half ago. Now it's onto reassembly.:D

  10. I do my own paint and bodywork, then I get to yell at myself because I take to long to do the work for myself. I also get to bitch to myself about the substandard work I did for myself because I didn’t want to pay myself for the top quality work that I expect from myself, usually leads to me withholding payment from myself and having to calm myself down so that me, myself and I can come to an agreement that makes the three of us happy.

  12. Mine ( see avatar) was on track until the end of summer, when 2 guys quit at the shop were its at.
Sounds like it will be some time till these guys are replaced, the only consolation is I've known the owners family for some time, so she's safe and sound till things move forward.

F5ECAE09-8F72-4368-B5FF-E9C13DFA9714.jpeg Third primer incarnation. And now needs a fourth. All this while still not drivable. I’m working on putting it on the road and then worry about the paint! Enough prison!

I think everyone should do at least one car. Bare metal up. Do all the bodywork and primer, block it, paint it buff it ect... Then you can look in the mirror and bitch yourself out when it doesn't get worked on that day. LOL. If my car was in a bodyshop a year with no progress, that sucker would be on it's way home. Period.

You guys crack me up! And, I needed that. :D I have always done all my own paint and body work because I couldn’t afford to pay anyone and because I wanted to avoid jail. Not sure how many cars I broke out of jail for buddies as well back when I painted for other people.

Now, my sons pickup project is stuck in body shop jail but mainly because I can’t keep his lazy butt learning how to fix rust. I know how to do the work, but figure he needs to know how as well if he also wants to avoid jail in the future. :p

I think rust repair jail is different than paint jail. If your car got sent up for rust repair, you should expect a lot more time til it is pardoned. Anyone who has ever done their own bodywork (that's what I call rust repair and dent removal) should know exactly what I'm talking about. Smoothing filler and blocking primer is lots easier than cutting big rusty chunks from the body and successfully putting it back in one piece.

Good point. Paint jail should be a much shorter sentence than rust repair jail. I’m sure that’s written somewhere in paint and body law books.

See my post on people not following through….
That’s why I am learning everything I can.

Looks like I will be learning how to lay tile of I don’t find someone that wants to work pretty soon.

My house got hit with a tornado a few weeks ago and I can’t even get contractors to return my calls. Good times.

Trade tile work for paint work. Win-win.

Refer back to previous comments above about body shop jail for Silas’s pu. Oh, and my wife likely has me in home improvement jail until I get some things done on our house.

  24. I know how to lay tile because I’m a cheap (poor) bastard!

  25. I got lucky on mine. A friend of a friend got tired of working for someone else and decided to go out on his own.
I heard about it and was the first customer. He removed the fenders, hood and bed and jambed them, then after paint, reassembled the truck. Also did the bed liner. The only caveat to this was he was in my old home town 400 miles away. Picture was taken halfway when I picked it up. One month start to finish!

  26. Hell, 6 months of inactivity would be cause for a throat punch and pulling my car. I have not done a full bodied car in years but was recently going through build pics for the new owner of my old T. It reminded me of when I painted it at my folks place. I took it from bare metal to finished paint in about 2 or 3 months time. I don't plan on my GMC or roadster to take any longer either.

Use the time, your using too put off working on your car,and you'll have enough to do a few cars.
Find out that doing it,makes you better***.
High expections*,are really nice, but blocks more ,by idea that you can't do it,then finding out you can do it your self ,plus take pride in it!
For me on my first home paint job,in the back yard wetted down grass,in the late 1950s,3 flying bugs became "Badges of Honor***"<that I did it my self!!
Even found out no one saw them bugs but me. Plus later worked part time at a body shop one summer after school.

So get off the over high chair n learn< or pay for* , your lazy badge in wasted time.

The last full paint job I did on a car was a mid-year vette roadster that was stuck in bodyshop jail for over a year with some pretty crappy work that did even happen. I had to bust half the front end apart and glass it back together to get things like the hood and headlights to fit nice like they should and still had it completely done in less than 6 months while also having a full time job and being a full time college student.
