The cardboard windows used for Themoose to Photoshop the proposed chop. Lots of cutting and pasting to go but so far all the planning seems to be coming out right…

 

Are you going to slant the b pillars?

 

I like the straight look but it seems popular opinion that I should slant them. The b pillars may be last on the list as it is up in the air. I am still trying to sell myself on slanted.

Can someone do a slant vs straight B pillar comparison with all of the pieces obviously in the right places. Hopefully get everything fit tonight and finish welding it all tomorrow and build a new catwalk. The rear spring is on backorder so this is close to the stance. Lowering it 3” in front 5-6”in the rear. The tsildragger rake should be close with the front wheels on the skates.

 

I like it. Its pretty subtle.

 

im not sure what goes on over here . be gentle its my first time . im just trying to see if someone can alter my pix to show what my 41 will look like dropped 3 or 4 inches and maybe chopped the same . its all above my pay grade . so if you could it would be grt.!!

 

Looks to me like 3/4" doesn't make a lot of difference. but...

 

I suspect he meant 3" to 4", not 3/4"

 

Would look better if the rear wheel was centered in the rear fender.

 

sorry for the confusion . 3 to 4 inches . is what i meant . my wife and i have had similar miss communication . several times ! and i will never understand why the wheels werent centered as built . but i guarantee when i lower it i will fix that . if nothing else

 

how about a straight b pillar , never saw that in a cheby coupe ! and maybe sme un hamb 20 inch steelies with knock offs ?

no to which ? or all the above ? the only thing likely to materialize is 3 inch drop . but some type of 5 soke wheels will probably come and go . depending on my mood . once im rid of 4.11s my wheel tire options are wide open . well not to wide . tubs are not in the mix !! but shorter tires with thinner w/w might give a totaly different look . right or wrong !

 

The rear axle of a '40 Chevy Coupe that I owned at one time had been replaced with one from a '57 Dodge.
The holes in the perches to align to the springs of the Chevy and Dodge rear-ends were not the same, and it caused the rear-end to be forward too far; just like the pic above.
I can't remember which was off-center, but one was, and one was on-center.
Seems like it was only about 3/4" or maybe 1" at most......enough to make a difference.

 

maybe , but these chevys were built with the rear ends off cntr. . my best bet is it was because the rear w/torque tube moved back under compression . but im sure the engineers new more than i will ever figure out ! i think all gm cars had the same location in these years ?

 

Someone else is going to have to do the wheels (I have to do some other things today) but here is a chop and drop. I can go farther if you like.

 

thnx , thats where im heading . the chop will probably .never happen . i did sit and dream about the first cut . but i did the glass and headliner to put it out of my mind . still i could get a wild hair . the altitude is in the very near future . if my shop wasnt such a mess id start today . could set my goals a little lower and clean the shop .?? what the hell . im pretty good at stepping over shit . havnt had a real bad tripping incident . yet !

A straight pillar chop would be tough to pull off in real life, you'd probably have to source some 2 door sedan doors and pillars to make it work. That said, I don't hate the look, it's actually much nicer than I would have thought.

No fucking way am I adding 20" wheels to this picture though.

 

it was really a joke pertaining to the 46? ford coupe chop above . but it does give it a unique AND cool look ! if it was only that easy in real life . as to the low hanging fruit . it sucks that i am getting to where i dont want to cut something that is original and in decent condition . but the beauty of a 41 sd coupe is it seems like there are more around now than were built . so not rare . id hate to guess how many chopped are around .and throw in the 46/48 and im sure i cant count that high. if your real good a 3 inch chop on a ford will almost make it look like a stock chevy ! dont ask how i know !!

 

Make a hardtop out of it and don't worry about the center post. And if you drive it seldomly, screw the side glasses for style.

thats what im talking about . i never even dreamed that approach . the hard top would be so cool as well . im not sure where you would start . hammer , chisel ? .......hacksaw ? those wheels really work to ! id really hate to replace my rambler wheel covers , but at least they were cheap !! im really wanting to see the stock roof line in silver or silver metallic !
