I am looking for a distributor that was produced for a 4 cylinder engine and also had
a mechanical tach drive ***embly built in? I finally found a correct NOS mechanical
    drive tachometer for my 1932/34 - 4 cylinder Ford B' engine ( 3,500 RPM ) and would
like to drive it off of the distributors adapter. I know there were some early generators
that had a tach drive adapter mounted on the rear of the housing, and I can always
look into that as another option. Chevy Nova, Datsun, Subaru, Toyota... they all
seem like there would have been a mechanical drive on at least one of them? Thanks

  2. I would be looking at import cars.

You can adapt a V8 distributer that has been done. Another option that has been done is to drive the tach off the cam snout using a doubler; it is a common way (common being a relative term) way to run a mechanical tach.

I'll start looking there. I think that the housing should be able to be machined down to fit inside
the cylinder heads opening - or the OHV distributors stand - and the drive shaft should be able
to be machined to fit the B' cam and ignition points plate so they all fit inside the caps.
It gives me some where to look. Thanks

Perkins and Continental gas engines used them in tractors and other equipment.

MGs, Triumphs, Healy’s, etc. Get in touch with a forum for one of these LBCs and I’m sure you will find what you need.

NO this will not work. the banger turns L.H. Counter clockwise.
    Most Ford V-8's turn L.H.
The weights on a Chevy turn clockwise and will not fly out the change the Mech Advance, if spun CCW. The mechanism would stay forced on the stop.
I used a Mallory with tach drive that fits British 4's it was a simple machining project.

    Following up with all of your suggestions, and so far the best one is also the most elusive one;
Mallory YL Points Distributor Waukesha New Holland Ford Adco Tach Drive YL717A
I have not been able to locate anything related to this distributor, part number, or any company related to Mallory products; Speedway, Jeggs, Ebay, Amazon, and none of my friends - no matter how performance orientated they are - have never heard
of this little gem. Anyone out there have any ideas as to what type of "original"
distributor this thing would have replaced so I can reverse search for ideas?

  15. It would have replaced a magneto. I helped my ex's uncle sell several. Wico I believe?

Stumbled on this, it says without tach drive but clearly shows the casting is meant for one.
These guys might have some information.

IH original part numbers 367839R92, 107304C91. A refundable $80.00 core charge will be added to your invoice. This additional charge will be added to your order. Also NOTE: Note that if the core is not a complete and good core, part or all of the core charge will not be refunded. Typically, most cores need a shaft replacement and the cost of the shaft will be deducted from the core charge. This is usually $30

Make sure you verify the rotation is correct.

The correct rotation would definitely be a plus, but the casting will probably need to be machined to fit into the cylinder heads I.D. the lower shaft will need to be machined with flats to fit into the distributors intermediate shaft, and the top would probably need to be machined to accept a new B' cam, so
in ***uming all of that would need to be done - and could be done, the existing points plate
will need to be modified to accept an original or modern points plate. Whew....
I believe I am at le3ast on the right path. Again, Thanks

I know this is an old thread, but did you have any luck with the Tack Driven Tractor Distributor.

Im researching same issue, would like to have one modified for a Hopped up B-Motor.
