I’m certainly not a fan of electric cars but they do have gobs of torque and power! And, while I don’t plan to drop the Eluminator into my ‘54……..at some point one of my grandkids may! The future is upon us!

They'll get my gas powered car when they pry my cold, dead fingers off the steering wheel...

Right now electric cars don't make much sense to me, this might be a practical application but I sure as hell don't want one! I quit playing with slot cars a long time ago. My 55 is a hybrid, it burns gas and rubber! Electric cars have as much personality as a Black and Decker drill in my opinion.

    Yep!

    Haha, mine too.
I sure don't want to be in CA when they are mostly electric cars on a hot summer day stuck in a massive traffic jam like they have because all the elect cars are dead.

Yes - in Cali we have to wash clothes in off-hours so not to tax the electrical system. What happens when you can't charge your car due to rolling brown outs? But hey - I'm sure the politicians will have theirs charged!

Electric cars aren't ready for prime time. The necessary dedicated infrastructure doesn't exist to any appreciable degree, and it can take hours to charge one vs. a few minutes to refuel a conventional vehicle. They do make sense for certain applications like light, local deliveries (Post Office) and others that stay within a small geographical area and return to a fixed location to be charged. I take long road trips and don't want to suffer from range anxiety or spend hours at a charging station when I could be on the road making time.

When I need to buy gasoline at the pharmacy hell yes.. We only use our car for a 1000 miles a year and normally not over 100 miles at a time. I'd keep the column shifter some how and put the batteries in the trunk and under the back seat I guess. I am guessing at 77 I won't see it...

We are the kinder, gentler part of the HAMB. We can take a joke, just not in the White House.

The Topic in my original post was about Fords electric crate motor sometimes people use some humor to laugh at the world around us, I don't think we crossed any political boundaries anymore so than things we see on a daily basis. It's too bad we live in a time when people are so easily offended,I guess at my age I'm still in a different and earlier time zone.

Totally agree Jeff! Just driving a "fossil fuel" vehicle of any kind is enough to set off some Oregon green weenies even though there is not a practical replacement in most cases. It's no joke, I like driving my old cars and trucks but during the last couple years we can't have a swap meet or car show and why would you EVER WANT to have an old gross polluting vehicle when you can drive a clean electric is the attitude I have ran into among the people that run this state. Perhaps this is why electric cars wind me up so much, without government subsidies electric makes even less sense than it does on it's own. And now they are trying to push me in that direction, this "crate motor" just gives them more ammunition. I can't get a permit from Salem to have a car show in the park (which we have done for 25+ years) but we can let so called "protesters" run wild and burn and loot Oregon cities, yeah that makes perfect sense too! Sense of humor I used to have! Okay, enough rant!

On top of all that, the manufacture of the batteries for electric vehicles is very polluting due to the rare earth they contain, and ultimately driving one only transfers pollution from the tail pipe to the fossil fuel powered power plants. And the rare earth in 'em comes from...wait for it...CHINA.

This isn't about being green, it's about control.

Yeah, I can certainly see how Ford, by offering an EV crate motor, is a threat to our old cars, not to mention the American Way of Life™.

It's understandable that some people are losing their minds over it. I mean, look at what happened when Ford did the same thing 120 years ago with the ICE. No one alive today ever got to know the joys of owning a horse, a bicycle, or a sailboat. :D

Actually, the topic of this thread is about going very fast with new technology that is being made both more practical and affordable by Ford.

It's just that some folks seem to get triggered easily these days and lose focus.

None of the parts are actually available yet. Let alone a whole bolt in kit.
There a a lot of other systems that are needed to make this work.
There is also a GM EV conversion shown at Sema and a slew of others that have been converting for years. There a few turnkey converters that range from 15k-70k to make your Jalopy EV.
I want to run gas in my cars until there is no more. But the catch is that they will raise the gas and taxes so high you have to be a true goldchainer to afford a gallon of gas. That is the real stop gap here. Unless you know how to refine your own fuel. A day will come.

Okay, so I am done with this topic BUT let me say this is something that I have done MUCH research and have been involved with for a long time (over 15 years). I am not speaking from ignorance but just from common sense on a politically charged topic. I don't like it, over and out!

there is no doubt that in the future electric cars will be the norm,or what ever new power they think of.
hopefully after my time on this planet.....
and in that future there is no reason not to convert our cars to electric or what ever, if that means we still get to enjoy the classics and still use them....but as i say, after i'm gone

I’m with you Joe. No new cars in my future. It is what is it though in conversion to keep the old ones going. I pondered CNG conversion for a while. Srglathargic has a propane powered Falcon.
they just need to create that flammable electrojuice that can be poured right into the the same old gas tank.
