Well they might be clean but the term “yuppie” hadn’t been invented while the guy swinging the ball peen hammer was drag racing. Wayne Arteaga was involved for over 40 years with his own gas class cars and he also hosted touring pros at his house and garage. He was a friend to more of the gas class greats and forgot more about racing than most of us will ever know.
RIP Wayne.

Also, near Hayward? Not hardly, more like near Milpitas. Unless we're talking about a completely different Fremont Drag Strip?

I grew up in Sunnyvale and when they were going at the drag strip we could hear them!

 

I didn't recognize it at first, but I think you're right. I worked with a guy whose parents were part of the local 'mob' that burned it down, to try to get rid of the horror of it. Strange deal.
