So, has anyone ever installed a hydraulic cam like the L-79 cam in a high winding small block and how was it with all round street duty????....

    So...yes.
As DDDeny says, not a problem.
One thing, depending on the heads that you use, is how the engine will run with that cam.
With more, stock valved and no porting, the engine will be down on power, don't expect a lot.
With larger heads and or larger valves in the OEM heads and some porting, especially on the intake side, the engine will be more responsive to that cam.

A better than "stock for the engine" intake manifold will be a very good bet. Ported and or larger valved heads and a stock intake manifold, is like being choked.

And one note, it might not be a good "stop light" combination. But with the rpm up a little, it should be a fun little engine.

It will also need more than 8 to 1 compression too. Again, if the compression is low, it'll be a bit sluggish around town.

With a LSA of 114* and 222@050 duration you may have "problems" getting it to run on pump gas.
'Maybe' retard the timing a bunch and use 93 octane.......
It will ping like crazy with that LSA duration combo.
IF you want the 'lick' of a radical cam but decent manners get something like an Isky grind (108*LSA).

Keep the compression about 9:1 & all in timing close to 34°& unless your driving a dump truck , You shouldn't have pre ignition/ detonation problems .

are you talking about a DZ302 Z28 engine? If so that already has a real good intake manifold cylinder heads and 11:1 compression. I would imagine that if this is what you are asking about there may be a little more usable low end power at the sacrifice of upper rpm power

I did it in 1965. Was/is a great cam, 9.25-1 compression, cast iron exhaust and a Carter AFB.

Yes, sorry Mark.. I was referring to a 301/302 with 11:1 compression and big valve heads with a nice free flowing intake and headers..
