Hot Rods Tail lights

Would appreciate some advice

 

Trying to think what I have around here in the garage but maybe 1950 Pontiac or Hudson lights . Most of mine look good if mounted on fenders or for trucks.

 

Not to an ass, but I think you have a lot of metal work to do before needing to worry much about orientation of the taillights

 

If the surface was flat or you wanted to French them 1954 Chevy Bel Air lights with solid Lee lenses might set it apart . Obviously, 1930’s would look good with housings mounted to rear fenders but that is not where your going.

 

Those only look good on a Oldsmobile.

 

I like em. pointy side up, what ever that is

 

Personally not feeling them... the Dodge body style says smooth and understated to me... might be tough to find just the right look.

Asymmetrical might be cool... mount a single in the gas tank filler hole. Bonus points if it opens/pivots somehow to allow access to the filler cap. Unless you want turn signals!

Agree with above, just not feeling the look of them with the body lines.

I was trying something different... thought these were neat looking, lenses kind of art deco plus im running a 50 olds engine so its a little themed. Not completely sold yet

 

I try to plan out a build before starting, get an idea of what its gonna look like/what im aiming at. Helps me process

 

Other options and where i was heading before the olds popped into my head. Disregard the leds

 

They're alright, definitely need to be oriented pointy side up. They are not going to look right unless the gas filler hole is relocated, and at that point the lights need to be centered in the panel and not pushed all the way to the top (I'll assume they're only there like that because it was easier to tape them to the top edge.

 

Exactly, planned on moving filler neck. Was thinking of centering it and using a 53/54 ford flip down license bracket to cover it

horizontal if pushed to the outer edge of the body where the curve matches best - and massage the body to fit - but these don't really suit this body style - looks kind of like "I had them laying around, so..."

 

Theyre curved, couldnt mount horizontal. I actually bought these for this but if i go a different route ill just sell em. They still fetch good money

you also need the fender spears that mount to the top of the taillight, let them run up the deck lid

 

I'm with Wanderlust on this one. Concentrate on your massive body issues first instead of getting sidetracked on the bling. That stuff seems to somehow show up by then.

 

Other than fiddling with the chrome bezel for fit and finish , scare up a pic of 1956 Olds tail lights. Or 1958 Pontiac tail lights.

 

I think im gonna try the 46-48 plymouth... i can always do 50 pontiac next if those dont work lol those 58 pontiacs are cool!

I have some early VW Hella or 1959 Caddy tail lights. Heck I have parts packed away that I don’t remember what’s in the boxes and totes . But I do have a collection of brass fire extinguishers and spotlights. Just too much
