    Selling takes effort, period.

There are times I don't get back to people as fast as I would like and ultimately - it comes down laziness. Honestly, I don't want to work until 2am every night doing some sort of side work. Could I? Certainly but I shut it down for other reasons and it leaves some folks unresponded to. Right now, I have a couple people who've waited too long.

I need to address that. I'm glad this post popped up and made me be critical toward myself.

This is VERY easy: If selling is not important (in the hierarchy of things) - don't list it.

Guys down the street waste WAY more of my time than HAMBers.

If you have a limitation, be open about it. People will understand. For example, if the only option you have is USPS, communicate it.

Don't be offended if someone thinks you're lazy and don't make excuses if you are.

Excuses are lame and they're easily recognized.

May not be laziness, they might be like “guys, i get it, im selling it and i know you want it.. but ive been burnt before with todays unreliability of the postal service and fedex, losing things and me having to refund the seller... so ill work with you when i can, but youll haveto organise all that so its not on me this time”

it does **** tho, im usually like “welp, i CANT figure out shipping my end, i really dont know shippers in another state, nor do i know the items dimensions and weight without it infront of me to gauge..”

I have a car that is pretty hard to find sheet metal for and I have ac***ulated spares just in case I ever have an accident and need to replace parts. A guy contacts me and gives me a sob story and begs me to sell him a hood and two front fenders. I decide that since I had two extra hoods and four extra sets of front fenders I would help him out. I dig them out of the attic and send him photos. I determine what they are probably worth and quote him a price below that, again to help him out. He complains about the price and said that if he buys them at that price that he can’t afford to have them shipped. I tell him to come pick them up as he is only a little less than 3 hours away. Nope, he doesn’t have time. I figure that it would be a good road trip for me and the wife so I offer to DELIVER THEM TO HIS DOOR STEP FOR JUST THE COST OF GAS. Nope, I need to deliver them to him for free for the quoted price. FU. Back in the attic they go and I am not digging them out again for anyone for any price. Dealing with en***led people is the worse.

Plus why is it always the sellers fault? Why is the seller lazy..? Anyone here ever sold anything in good faith to have the buyer try pull a fast one and reverse charges/lie/scam YOU? That ever made you once bitten twice shy..?

if i want it, im driving 2 stares to pick it up

Really???? This whole thread is about people who specify their limitations and are getting called out about being bad/lazy sellers because of it.

    Really.

I was responding to the guy above me.

But... we hear excuses EVERY day that have nothing, absolutely zero, to do with actual limiting factors.

Alright, to your point it takes all types. Some won't get it, others default is they're being lied to by a lazy person, maybe they're just angry, who knows, and some of us don't do a good enough job communicating.

    This is a 2-way street.

I have no obligation to accommodate a buyer in any way, shape or form, unless I stated in my ad otherwise.

What you get for the price is the item, if so listed.

If someone won’t ship something I move on, no big deal, I’ve had a few people here not want to ship stuff to Canada, I moved on no big deal. People get so uptight about things.

We should spend more time building cars and less time finding things to complain about.

Lazy? What's the beef with not shipping? More whining from the peanut gallery? Maybe people can't get to the shipper. Maybe people can't box or wrap due to an injury.
There are things I refuse to ship due to the cost. I know when it's not cost worthy to ship an item.
Why would you buy a part dirt cheap and pay 200 x's the cost in shipping? Is that saving you money?
Are you too lazy too pick the part up? Are you so lazy that you can't get someone to pick it up for you and ship it to you so that you can pay the over cost?
A lot of buyer's are flat out lazy and want all of the work done for them. Hell, most buyer's are too lazy to compute the cost of shipping on their own. "How much is shipping to me?"
I think the sellers who have the buyer provide their own shipper have it right for the big items.
Lazy! Don't buy our stuff if you don't like it.

    I think it’s quite simple
If ad add says “No Shipping” you have 3 choices.
Find someone to do the transaction for you.
    Go get the item(s) yourself.
    P***.

For me it's often this too: I don't need to. It'll sell with pickup. Why should I bother shipping it if I don't have to?

There are 2 upsides to all of this though.

    1. I've gotten some incredible deals on stuff because I actually showed up when I said I would, after a slew of other people either didn't show up when agreed, or demanded delivery.

    2. I've sold some things for obscene amounts of money because I made it super easy for the buyer. Just send the money and it'll be at your door. People complain all day about how expensive stuff on eBay is but it's the convenience that brings the money. Find what you want any time of day, pay with a few computer clicks and have it magically show up at your doorstep in a few days.

    Effort brings advantage.

The laziness falls on both sides of this deal. I will lovingly package parts and take them to our local P.O. for an accurate shipping quote but at my age I'm not schlepping big or heavy items anywhere. I don't own a banding machine so I can't properly palletize anything either. BUT, I advertise accordingly. I only put stuff in the HAMB cl***ifieds that I can ship comfortably, everything bigger goes on Craigslist for pickup.
I live out in the boondocks and many potential buyers contact me but feel like they are too far away. If I can, I will put the item in the van and meet them half way. You'd be surprised how many sales were completed because I would do that. Most people are pleasantly surprised. Most times the wife and I just make a day of it, meeting the buyer somewhere public and then going shopping or out to lunch nearby. I only do that for $200+ items unless I need to go that direction anyways. I'm pretty sure no one would call me lazy when it comes to buying and selling.
A great transaction is one where each person walks away pleased. That requires some give and take, some effort and understanding on both sides. I've known people who won't even return missed phone calls saying that if they want it they can call me. When I decide to sell things, I want them gone and I'm willing to put out a little effort to make that happen.

I don't get it either. Boxes are free are most body shops, roll of packing tape may run $6.oo at the hardware store. Lack boxing skills? If you can't box a part you can't build a car anyone wants to look at.

I sell and ship as fast as I can. This past week my wife had medical problems and I explained the situation to the buyer. He was understanding. I shipped and put ins on the item in case I had not packed it well enough.
I try to ship as soon as I can. I use the USPS boxes most of the time

    Thanks,

    jim

And the other side of the equation is that if you want to sell your part/s, you might need to consider packaging.

I sell , I ship soon as paid. All I meant is you never know a person’s situation. You have too look at both sides , both communicate upfront and not ***ume your position and abilities are are the same as the other guy/gal . The problem is it’s human nature , I believe to subconsciously think the other guy is in the same ideal cir***stance.

Well, let me ask you this.
I have a FH 239 crank. What’s it worth? 50-75 bucks? Maybe, but I don’t want to toss it. So I offer it for sale for 10 bucks, pick up only.
Why? Well, the time to box it is one thing, the cost to ship it across town probably exceeds the value of it.
I guess I’m saying the seller can set the terms on what they have for sale. I/e he/she might only want to take an item and drop it at a UPS ect, place that will package and send it. It will cost the buyer more money than he packaging it up and taking it to the Post Office. But the seller sets his terms. If those terms are pick up only, the terms have been set.
