It's too far behind it to see, where Fords typically are.

I agree totally DDDenny. Why people have to add these hokey sticks and vent shades to a nice 210 beats me but I see it all the time Some times I thought they were trying to cover up bad body work on the rockers. It probably also has the fingernail gds on the door handles and the guard around the gas filler door. I would have liked it a lot better my way but it's not my car.

  7. It's a nice 210, sits right. Most didn't leave the factory with the gingerbread, that was Bel Air stuff. Let's at least give him a pass on the two(!) exterior mirrors. That shows he probably drives it!

Just hopped on this thread. Newbie to the forum. Lots to navigate through on this thread! Just getting started on my build. Love the chrome reverse wheels Flying-t! Thats my plan as well. I've got 14" wheels on the 55 210 Del Ray Coupe I have, but not sure if that is the original size wheels or not. The guy I bought it from hacked it up pretty good so I don't know what's original except what the VIN and Trim Tag say, and that doesn't help with wheel size (and lots of other details). What size wheels do you guys use to keep close to stock?

After looking at some of the posts/photos on this thread, I am envious and inspired! Lots to catch up on with this thread. Glad to be here.

55 Chevies came from the factory with 15x5 wheels. Here is a pic of my custom 55 chevy with 15x6 chrome wheels with 3 inch backspace 5551.JPG 5553.JPG

Damn Moriarity, that is one bad short! Out of my league. Love the wheels. Thanks for the info. I thought the 14" wheels were a little small. My plan at this point is to do a "patina" rebuild to get my old iron back on the road ASAP. Then revert back to the original trim tag colors (interior and exterior) as time permits. Engine performance rebuild is underway (455 Pontiac). Will be fun trying to shoehorn that beast into the Del Ray. Wish me luck.

Here's one that I bought recently. I put a 327 and Muncie in it, bumpers and glass. It will soon be time for the interior. IMG_20210503_122846403.jpg

Crazy Summer with a few big projects that took up a lot of time as I haven't touched the '55 since May I think. Having to stop and think where I left off.

Pretty happy with the way the carpet turned out and the new foam I put in the front seat. Got a cheapie truck front seat cover and cut it down, be ok for now. Probably not going to do a re-upholstery for quite a while, that'll have to wait. New belts too. Everything else is original except for the the little 2 gauge panel under the dash. Picked up an aluminum mount and will use a few NOS SW gauges in its place.
Did find a company that make floor matts out of the same color carpet and weave, plus they can make them with out any kind of logo in them.

My high school 57 BelAir 2 dr hdtp was bright yellow like that, but had a white top so that helped tone it down a little.

So agree. Posted in another thread I have been looking for a car like this for a long time. Find them but not for sale. Drop it a little and probably get rid of the wide whites and enjoy it. So unmolested. Would want to keep it that way. Thanks for posting and getting me cranked up. Says for sale. Wouldn't have cared the price. SOLD is what I would have said.

  22. Yes. The original ''clean sheet of paper'' Chevrolet.
Pure. V8 powered by a lightweight engine that was about to reset performance expectations for many years.
The next two years GM improved and embellished. More style and performance came. Competition was very tough. The economy wasn't great. Ford and Chrysler pulled out the big guns, things in the industry were moving at a jet age pace. But for the one year, 1955, it was just right. I'm a diehard '57 guy, love the clean 150's and 210's the best because they are closest to their roots.

Can you imagine seeing this going down the road in 1954.
If I had been working in the GM marketing department the advertisement would have read......."Heading for a racetrack near you".

It just proves you don't need pretty sparkly oversize wheels to look cool. In fact if you want cool it's better not to have pretty sparkly oversize wheels.

I sure wish that it was Kosher to post a photo of Roy Brizios' Pagan Gold 55 two-ten.
It's possibly the only vintage car with modern wheels that pleases my sensibilities.
It is an absolute knockout (Google it) but please don't post a photo of it, I don't want to jeopardize the integrity of this thread.

I took off my sparkly wheels this summer and opted for a set of old Americans. Backs rub just a smidge on a tight turn, but they will wear in. 20210717_101410.jpg

Yep, well said. The ultimate blank canvas. To think that GM almost 'restyled' that grille due to 'slow' sales in the first couple months, where would we be today....Thank God they didn't. Ford guys have 32,33,34 and Chev guys have 55,56,57. All six are legends of the automotive golden era. Almost done with the final version of my 55 210, will post pics soon.
