My old OT Ford (66 factory convertible). " Nice car...you did a great job cutting the roof off and lengthening the doors...it almost looks original...blah blah blah" :rolleyes:o_O

  2. A guy I used to work with showed up with a new Porsche Boxter one day and was quite proud of it. A few minutes later an unknowing coworker asked within earshot "Who's Miata is that? Fella was so mad he started yelling "it's a Porsche! it's a Porsche!"

I was bring a dragster chassis home in a pick up , I had a flag on the axle as it hung out the back of the truck , a woman locked up her brakes at a light and almost hit the chassis, I jumped out of the truck to make sure all was ok and she asked me if my airplane was ok................

I had the Shaker at a car show, a young man comes up to me and asked what kind of ECU was I running? I explained it was a 1969 Crower mechanical fuel injection, hence no ECU , he argued with me that it was impossible for fuel injection not to have an ECU, I showed him all the components (which are all out in the open on an altered) and he still didnt believe me . he also had never seen a magneto and could not understand why there were no wires on the motor or car

If you know the Euro car scene, hot rods and custom cars are very rare. So most of the times people call them tuner cars, that hurts to have your 50/70 years old car being compared to a ricer.

If its a tri5 shorty, the only appropriate response, with a huge smile is “uh-uh, TWO perfectly good cars! The front of one and the rear of another!” Lol

  9. A couple of years ago we had my buddies lakes modified '23 in the basement at Detroit. its a nice car, wins trophies, magazines, top 100, etc. a very nicely done car.
the shift handle is a Very Old, very rare, very regulated, and very expensive type of bone (long and interesting story about that part)
Anyway, we are sitting around the car and this guy walks up, looks inside, points at the shifter and says "What's that? A petrified dog turd?"

I'd love to put a big six in the Whatever project. Of course it would mean lengthening the front of the frame, making it about a foot and a half longer. And finding a GMC big 6, and getting a transmission that could handle the torque, and... so it's not gonna happen. And then of course I'd have to put up with the comments about my "tractor " engine.

I've lost track of how many times guys have said, "Nice Anglia" or "Nice Willys" when looking at my Austin gasser. It doesn't even bother me anymore as it's happened so often.

But the first year after I finished it, I drove it in it's original black paint, and was sitting at a get together with friends when a guy and his girlfriend walked up, and she asked her boyfriend what it was, and he told her it was a "rat rod"! Now that really ticked me off.

I don’t know why you would worry at all with a transmission. We drag raced a Vega Saginaw 4-sp behind a Horning in a #3400 38 Chev and never hurt it. Bruce Johnston (rip) ran a stock head and 12 port in an old sprint car with late 30’s car trans with an enclosed torque tube. I’ve used 4 different 4-speeds and 2automatics with adapters and never hurt any of them.
I use dump or garbage truck..

  15. I've gotten the " It'll be nice when it's finished" a couple of times throughout the years. Most times the car was finished already.

He must have confused it with a Mercury, which is a Ford with lock washers.

As an old guy (68) who loved cars since I was a kid.... I guess I'm out of the "politically correct " loop. I've seen Street Rods that were Hot Rods, and Hot Rods that were Street Rods. I am truly trying to understand the big difference, and how it could be taken as offensive. Also saw nice coupes and roadsters that the owner called Rat Rod, because the grille, bumpers, or other body parts were not from the same make. When I was younger, any car that had the engine warmed up, or hotter engine installed, was a hot rod. Maybe it all goes with the new world, where a "woman" can have a set of nuts.....

Guess I should add, mine is a "Jalopy", so, if you call it anything else, I may have to sit in the corner and have a good cry....

Not an old car but same old story. Just sold my wife's Chevy HHR last week to a big time HHR lover and he's telling me how much it pisses him off when people call them PT Cruisers. While he's telling me this a friend of my son drives up and the first thing out of his mouth is " nice PT Cruiser".

So, were you escorted off the premises by the law and charged with assault or did you bite your tongue and ignore him completely? ;)

Well, you can plainly see he didn't have a clue what he was talking about. It's clearly a "Mouse Rod".;)
