That was my first thought. Sadly, most people have never heard of him before. From the 77 issue of Street IMG_20211106_0001.jpg IMG_20211106_0002.jpg Rodder.

Thanks Jim for the background info. I knew it was in a magazine just couldn't remember which one.

Good news, I can finally get a dash plaque from the first Merc Deuce Reunion. All I have to do is buy the Merc.

  6. I have a VCR tape from the Holland MI 1994 Reunion. Was this the last one?

From the Murphy and the Striper Book. They changed the taillights, the rear glass, rounded the hood corners, changed the grille and frenched the headlights. They also removed the sunken license plate. IMG_20211124_0001.jpg

Darryl Starbird had a Merc Deuce reunion at the museum in 2007. Darryl talked Jerry into letting him use the name for the event. I was there

Here`s are more build photos from the book. Then Dave Inman from northern Iowa has this 51 Merc. Maybe the first phot inspired someone to put 58 Tail lights in a 51 Merc. With a sunken license plate. IMG_20211125_0002.jpg Scan0051.jpg Scan0050.jpg

I vaguely remember the KKOA shows in Holland. Totally forgot about this show but then again I was only ten at the time.

My friend built this in 4 weeks for the 79 reunion. Chopped, channeled, sectioned, tilt nose, suicide doors, custom front and rear treatment. Installed drivetrain and hit the interstate with a wet flame job. My dad said he put a cot in the shop for naps. He later gave the Merc to a childhood friend. Both are gone now but she still sits in a garage. PXL_20210618_155148637~2.jpg

I gotta dig out my pics. I went as a spectator ( as usual), and that was the first time I'd ever flown on a plane.

That first Merc Deuce Reunion is a weekend I'll never forget. Drove my 50 Merc from Oklahoma City to KC with my high school sweetheart. All those pictures bring back great memories of that trip. Met some cool people there. I had the Tee shirt and a dash plaque for many years. Still have the tag that was on my Merc. It's sitting in the window of my shop.
