My wife is driving me nuts, I have 51 Dodge steering wheel, I thinks it's cool but it is large. What are you Model A guys using? I have a GM column but I can work with other brands.

Flat 4 spoke on a 70s GM column. Found the tilt wasn't really needed, ended up using it in the neutral position. Larger would have looked better but would have been too close to door. Dash is 34 Chevy Master,

When I bought my chopped '30 coupe, it was not drivable. Not because it didn't run, but because you couldn't get it it, no less drive the bugger. The wheel and column were near verticle, and with the 3-speed floor shift, there was no room for legs or feet. Problem solved... 1953 Ford column including shifter and wheel. Even the big wheel is okay, as it feels like 1955, and isn't that what it's all about. E-Brake is stock, and fine. Any guesses on the gas pedal. It's something I always wanted to do... Dash uses Mustang GT gauge cluster with concave glass. I painted the orange needles white to look old. The bezel was a pain, but worth the work. None of the spacing is concentric, although it doesn't show. We machined the bezel, then had it nickel plated, which looks much better that chrome.... It is a blast to drive, and it usually takes about half an hour to get back into the correct century. The dash cover is made from the upholstery out of my buddies Henry J, and was the original stuff. The seat is similar, but uses an 1955 aftermarket Ford pickup seat cover for the insert material. Ironically, people ask when I'm going to paint the critter. I tell them, it already is. Others ask about fancy wheels.... I tell them it has fancy wheels. Fronts are '40 Ford, and rears are wider, from a '40 Ford pickup. They usually turn a walk away, shaking their heads..... Oh well !! The one I originally had in there but needed just a bit more knee room so had to go to a dished one.

Steering wheels canbe a cool add,but also tell a lot, just by the look!
Like if they are tiny go cart size= One of 3 things; #1 driver maybe a big guy that can't fit behind a bigger wheel*.
#2 the rod builder didn't put the column in the right place an too lazy to move *it!
#3 =under 13 in. =bad control of any hotrod with more then 50HP,and looks like it!>as in cartoon! So fail at engineeing skills. "Booo-Whooo my car steers hard",an often have more things wrong as well..
I used a stock 30A wheel to start with in 1959 {I had a 30 box in my 28,for a time in my rod, both the box an wheel were not in super shape from 59 to 62,so they got replaced by a F1box an aftermarket wheel, then a Vaga Box n custom column, that I still use.
Years later I was given a nice woodwheel 14in. that was same color wood, like my wood trim in my cockpit,by a Buddy"JJ" who had got it for his rod,but found out it didn't fit his. Seem to fit my own OK.

A guy walks into a bar with a steering wheel in his pants.

The bartender says, "Hey, you know you've got a steering wheel in your pants?"

The guy says, "Aaargh! I know. It's driving me nuts."

I've used '40-47 Ford truck steering wheels in the last two Model A roadsters I've built. Good look and feel for the period correct car. Don't like anything that looks too modern.

Old pic but only one I have handy at the moment...

  26. Cut it down. Cheap steel speedway 15" doner wheel for the rim, weld to your inner steel structure and blend the two together with epoxy. Did this on my GMC
