This is the Dusty one that was in storage for 20 years. I bought it from my family in Oklahoma. Finally picking it up. Met my cousin half way in Nashville this weekend. Also hitting a Chris Stapleton concert tonight.

  5. Be sure to secure that vehicle tonight. Many cars just disappear in that vicinity.

  6. That is one sweet little Coupe. Gotta love some Chris Stapleton. Enjoy both.:)

Yes and it spent the last 21 years in a storage unit in Oklahoma. I was told the family had paid over $24k in storage fees.

I couldn’t wait to fire the flathead up again. Starts easy. Sounds good to me. No more smoke. I still need to do some work to finish up the wiring, fuel lines, and hook up the radiator before I can run it for more that a minute or two.

I think the majority of people that rent storage units end up paying more in rent than the stuff in the storage unit is worth! Unfortunately that includes me

It was brought to my attention that today marks my 1 year anniversary of this thread. Time has gone by really fast. Last year this time I was combing Craigslist trying to find some sort of hot rod project. The global pandemic environment allowed me to work primarily from home and gave me a bit more time since I didn’t have to commute an hour each way everyday. I really didn’t have a clear vision for my project at that time, I just had the desire to build/create a hot rod. I was also hoping that a hot rod project would capture my teenage boys’ interest and help to create opportunities to spend more time with them.
I happened on and read through Joey Ukrop’s thread ‘Building a Roadster in San Francisco’ and that inspired me and helped me narrow down the focus of my project. A traditional style hot rod. I decided to start a thread on the H.A.M.B. and seek some advice. The support and willingness to provide advice and give recommendations really surprised me. Right off the bat I found sound advice that I am still using in my strategy today “Find the best car that you like and can afford and buy it” goldmountain, “Find a complete but unmolested car and have at it” wanderlust. Many of you have stuck with me. Some through every post (lothiandon1940). I have met several of you and that really has been the unexpected best part for me. I’d like to meet more of you. Please reach out if you ever want to meet up or drop by. Some of you have given or sold me parts. Thank you for your generosity!
As most of you know, I am now deep into this traditional hot rod thing. I still really enjoy the research and problem solving aspects of the hobby. I have learned a lot thanks to all of you. I truly appreciate the encouragement and support you’ve given me. I’m looking forward to the build adventures of next year with you. TM

…and yes, I just noticed that I am wearing the same t-shirt in those pics. I do have other shirts… I think.

  23. You've added so much to this site with your thread and your enthusiasm, we should all be thanking you for being here. It was great to meet you in person. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to get together again in 2022. Don't forget the "new" Jalopy Showdown. .........Don.

Finally connected the radiator to the 59AB. I think it runs pretty good.

Annual family Gingerbread competition. Sadly I came in second. Sharing with my brothers here because I know you’ll understand my frustration.

I ran out of time before I could add my ceramic coated lake style headers. I’m thinking that would’ve moved me up to first place.
