No big update however when I bought my car the inside rear view mirror was missing. I found a gentleman in Ontario who was parting out a ‘64 Windsor Convertible and I’m now the proud owner of it! Even installed it today! 541B8FFA-C677-454C-82DC-DC31053C021E.jpeg 56CE1F24-51EE-43A2-A1B6-37BA8E669042.jpeg
Hardly groundbreaking but hey it’s something on a cold winter day!

The heater in my 66 Chrysler Convertible has a double heater core and yes, it is incredible. I drove it to the Belton Texas swap meet today. Its a very small swap meet, the 10th swap I went to this year.

My favorite time to drive the car with the top down is when it’s cool out and the heater on

Alright…update time. Do to a lack of intelligence on my part we have action on the car.
66390FC2-9297-42A2-8BE5-89AC251FE79F.jpeg I managed to back into my diesel pickup so I guess the car is getting painted at this point…

Pulled the trim off the quarter.

There is next to no rust in the car but I knew there was some questionable bodywork in spots. The paint is even more amateur then my work so painting one quarter is out of the question…

getting there. The side trim may “fall off” along the way, along with some emblems.

  7. That's an unfortunate incident, made worse that it's self-inflicted. I know I've done a few myself. I don't know if I'd let the side trim fall off, that's a pretty tall expanse of sheet metal in the sides to be all one colour. Time for photoshop to try it out.

same body style, No side trim.

  9. Okay, that works. Notice this one has wheelwell and rocker mouldings, sort of gives it a break. No Photoshop necessary.

Somewhere on the photoshop thread different side trim variations were played with. Option two is to leave the trim and do something fun with the paint instead of the white.

The upside to keeping the trim is I don’t have to weld up about 4000 holes and gut the interior to do it.

So sorry to hear this man.

BUT, as Hamtown Al says "opportunities!!!"

I see it's 75* in Grimshaw right now; a good day to work outside.

Yikes. Never ceases to amaze me how some do bodywork. I suppose it lasted a long time.

I wouldn’t expect to witness any miracles here but at least it’ll have solid metal welded behind the filler I put on…

I remember my cousin and I pulling off ALL the exterior chrome on my grandmother’s 64 Saratoga prior to getting repainted. It was a job and a half! Lol! I believe it had brushed aluminum or stainless down the sides between the chrome strips. We even painted the engine with her vacuum cleaner attachment. Turned out really nice. Haha!

not surprised to find the trunk drop and lower inner wheelhouse rusted.

much like @anthony myrick (just much less talented) no fancy tools were used, a hammer, grinder and various shaped objects to beat stuff over, I did have to make this in three pieces but I figure it’s got to be at least as good as how none of this was fixed last time….

Bottom of the fender ready for primer. 6B434152-04DF-412E-8876-88146D52F5B0.jpeg
Holes filled where the emblem was on the fender. 2C4F1990-65A2-451C-AC4D-E10668E9E9FF.jpeg
Someone had put the mirrors on top of the fender instead of where they belong on the angled part so I filled those holes as well. I’ll put the mirrors where they belong.

Somehow I managed to totally screw up the last picture…oh well. The car is going back the original color, I’m thinking of doing the stripe in a root beer candy lace. Just for a little fun.

Todays progress, more body work on the quarter, it’s finished now.

Filled the holes for the monster trunk emblem. Keeping the three crowns on the lower panel to match the three on the grill.

Half the car is pretty much ready for primer.

Thanks, the car will be far from perfect, it’s not being “restored”, one day it’ll need to be stripped and done right, for now it’ll be a solid driver paint job, which is what the car has always been and always will be!

Unless something drastic shows up when sanding primer it’s getting one session of primer, I’m not spending weeks block sanding this thing right now.
