Hi all, my name is Damon. As my forum name states I am a motorcycle guy and new to the hot rod scene. I am building a 1930 Ford Coupe in the traditional look for my grandson to have after I depart this world or he turns 16. He is now 2. Of course I would like to enjoy it for awhile beforehand. Always have been a hot rodder but not always with HAMB approved vehicles. Mostly early 60's Chevy II's. I am trying to figure out where the car plate in my avatar is from. Got this from my father when he died. tried searching at O'briens to no avail. Also have pictures of my fathers cars from around 1940 or so just before he entered the Army for WWII. It has a Egypt licence plate with I assume is arabic symbols on it displayed on front of his late 30's Ford. I was wondering what the significance is. He was a hot rodder and was partial to 49, 50,and 51 Merc's. I was exposed very early in my life. Want to do the same for my grandson. Been lurking since October and enjoy reading the HAMB. Thanks for any help or advice I can get. Damon
Thanks Don. I am up 81 where the mountains begin. Hegins Valley. 35 miles north of Harrisburg. Also got a picture of my dads car with the Egypt plate.
one of my hot rods 63 SS? 6cyl auto on the floor shifter. power steering. If I remember correctly. It is the one that got away and regret selling. Sold it to a friend and he wrecked it. Should have got it back and repaired it but at that time did not have the money to do such a job. Went to the junkyard.
This is the donor car for the Hot Rod build. We are using the body for the Hot Rod and the rest maybe used by my son to build a Roadster pick-up. Was in storage for many years. Previous owner had it running not to long ago. When we got it I charged battery added fuel, figured out starting procedure and bam started right away and runs like a clock.
Hi. Hopefully someone will have a clue on the club plate. May be hard to get an ID on it. I know back in the very late 50's - early 60's (forgot the year) back in Shreveport we formed the Regents rod & custom club. One of the members knew how to sand cast aluminum and we did our own club placque's. We all scrounged old aluminum pots, pans, scrap etc. and he melted it down and cast them. My placque disappeared in 68 when I moved to Texas. Wish I still had it. Would not be hard t get the scrap now with all the beverage cans. With the rough background on your placque it definately looks sand cast. Jimmie
Thanks Jimmie. Really doesnt matter but I will be passing all this on to the grandson and wanted the story behind it to go with it. It will go with the car either way. Will be a connection to his Great grandfather along with his flag from his military service funeral. My son hates it but he has been cut out of all my stuff. Bikes, tools, cars, and family stuff all goes to the grandson. But he understands. Grandson thinking about what he likes more Pappys Harley or Dads(was pappys too)
Here is the start. Going to be a challenge in the small garage I have to use right now. We just moved last year and need to build a new shop. Wont happen till the wood situation levels out some with this hoaxdemic. Boling Brothers frame, Chev engine(early 327 possibly) , turbo 350, Winters quick change(being built as we converse). All new Lincoln brakes, Buick finned drums up front. Kinda up in the air about wheels yet, either steelies and caps or wires.
Surely would have loved to see you go with a transverse rear spring, but hey, it's your car and it looks like it's going to be very cool. Keep us posted.........ps....That Winter's quick change does look sweet...............Don.
Well I was gonna go that route with the Spring in the rear but with the quick change it added a lot to the final price of the chassis. I am trying to do this paycheck to paycheck so everywhere I can save I will. And who is gonna complain about a better handling, easier to set up, and triangulated 4 link. Not traditional, but better. I am looking at the future of this hopefully being in the family long after I am gone. If it is any consolation the donor car will eventually get a roadster body or truck body and it will stay transverse. I am hoping to have it lowered and be able to cruise it while I am building the new chassis. I sure do like your car. A lot!
