57 Chevy BelAir FI convertible, 64 Impala SS 409 convertible would be my two for sure. The 57 is my favorite also a 64 trips my trigger. Had a 57 and a 64 back in the day, 60's, used cars.

Like Nrgwizard said, it depends on what year you're talking about. I've daydreamed about this before and can usually come up with a couple cars for just about any year.

Of course, if we're talking time travel I'd want to be able to go back and forth, so I could bring today's money to buy cars in the past and then bring them back. I'd probably pick up a Duesenberg or two.

I'd also be a Tucker. Then I'd put it up on blocks and twiddle my thumbs till it was worth a mil....

 

If the time period was 1955, I would pick a 1955 Ford Crown Victoria, red and white. And if it were 1960, I would pick a 1960 Chevrolet Impala 2dr HT, red and white. Cool to dream about!

 

The car would be secondary, the imagined life to go with the Bugatti Royale would be primary.. oh you said I was a line worker in Detroit.. maybe last year's model with low miles?

 

Can you imagine the first 33 Ford coming off the line? How about the 55 chev. Did the guys working on these cars realize the innovations they were helping bring about. The local example for us would be the Chrysler minivan- oh forget it, bad example. Oh yeah and those early 60’s Healys, were they model 2000?

Base model 55 Chevy 2 door with 265 and the 3 speed. No other options. Light and fast for its day. Of course I'd only be 1 year old, so mom and dad would have to do that.

 

For me it would be '62 Corvette, 327 cu in 340 hp, 4 speed with a posi rear end. Honduras Maroon, black interior with both tops, Maroon hard top, White soft top and WWW. Dreaming about this type car for a long time now, but with the prices they are going for no realistic car in sight (sad)

My neighbor had a '56 Chrysler, the real deal Hemi. Pretty sure I could be happy with that.

1955 Corvette because it had the v8. 1956 would be better since they had side windows but I don't like the side coves.

 

Cord…Either the L-29 or the later “coffin nose” 810/812. The front wheel drive was a mechanical nightmare but the styling was absolutely Stunning!!…Whoops, not made in Detroit, sorry…

 

If I was a line worker in Detroit, the new car I bought would be rusted away in five years, wouldn't it?

There would be so many choices. Any one of which I would love much more than anything that has come out of Detroit since 1970. At one time or another, I have owned most everything I really liked for a while. But one that I would have liked to have bought new and kept all this time that is hamb appropriate would be a 1959-60 Corvette, turquoise and white.

When I was 5 years old, my grandpa bought a brand new '61 Chevy pickup and he brought home the full line brochure to give to me. I studied that for years and I wished I was old enough to get a '61 Impala bubbletop, or a '61 Corvette, or even a '61 C60 truck! That was the epitome of automotive excellence for me!
