What do you do for a living

Never new what I wanted to do as a kid, a little college, a stint in the Army, little more college then hired out on the Santa Fe Railroad. 36 years total, fireman, to engineer, then management as a Road Foreman of Engines and finished up teaching operating rules to new hires. Been retired 12 years, still have a retirement project to do, and still not sure what I want to do when I grow up. You don't have to grow up, just gotta get old.

 

Art teacher for 30 years. Retired for the last 22 years.

 

Retired early as a superintendent for a utility. Member of an Alpine Search and Rescue team for the last nine years.

 

....Proud of you for doing something meaningful in retirement.

 

That's awesome. I did a lot of snowboarding as a younger man, still ride quite a bit. I lived in st Moritz in CH for a while and used to hike up, avalanche transponder in my jacket and everything. Daily jumping off cliffs the size of my house. Probably why my body don't work now! Lol.

I've seen you guys in action tho, amazing work.

You and me both brother.....the old hindsight is 20/20 thing.

 

Beach towns are over rated, think the three T’s….. Traffic, Tourists and Tsunamis.

 

Yeah.....but the one T you left out cancels out your other three.

 

Nah, those are every where.

 

Out of high school in 1976, bounced around from gas station to tire store to envelope company to metal finishing jobs. Always helping my uncle with his trucks (that started when I was about 13) in the background. Hired on as a Heavy Equipment mechanic in 1978 at a local steel mill. Laid off in '82. Went to work for a local Cat dealer in their forklift division, out of there in '87. Went to work for Baltimore County Maryland in August of '87 working on fire equipment (ladder trucks, pumpers, medics, etc.). Just retired from there this past October. Worked part time at a local shop for 20+ years. We did a lot of hot rod and race car work. The owner is a Super Stock racer, we did a fair amount of work on those type cars. Gene.

 

Pretty sure my brother would give a nut for that wagon. But I'm not sure that means a heck of a lot at this point...with four kids and three grandkids, I feel fairly sure he's done using them! Gene.

 

First job was a communication officer on a german submarine when i was young. after four years of sailing around the baltic and north sea underneath the surface and after buying my first vintage car i decided to learn doing something on cars.
I learned the job of car body making, accident cars, collector cars, just all. after that i started at a shop which dealed with repairing, restoring and partsdealing for the german DKW twostroke vehicles.
Next step was leading several car shops for exchange wear parts, doing all the boss stuff. Calculating, writing offers and bills, buying and storing spare parts etc.
Two and a half years ago i switched over to the wholesale part of the counter. a good way to save what's left of my knees and shoulders. Orders, selling and buying car and truck spare parts of any kind.
Now i quit my job to the end of january for i'm moving over to southern Sweden. Hope to get a nice job there, i'm heading 53 now, so there's some time left until retirement. Let's see what will come. maybe the swedish H.A.M.B.ers have any ideas?

Drove a Large Car for 40+ years, now I am retired and broke and to old to do much of anything although my Prefect keeps me going
