    I always liked the 1963 Avanti with the round headlights. I would order it in white with the orange interior and the R3 drivetrain. There are a lot of other cars, but first I would need to build a huge garage to keep them...

    Man, I'd be thrilled to be able to buy ANY of these cars new, not decades old and worn out. Even common cars, not the special ones you guys have listed. Brand new 1957 Suburban, family hauler. Even with the 235 and 3 on the tree! Of course the 283/Granny 4 speed would be my preferred option. Napco? Sure! Maybe a nice dark blue?

    You asked the question if I worked on a Detroit assembly line, but I would go for a Studebaker built out of Michigan, specifically, a 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk with a Packard 352 V8 and 125 mph capability. Instant hot rod with one of the best instrument panels ever.
    The '57 Hawk fins were too garish and the Packard engine was dropped. That's why I chose 1956.

    Funny (sad), I couldn't afford most of the listed cars when they were new...and now that they are "collectable", I STILL can't friggin' afford any of them.:mad::(

  12. i would definitely go for a 1957 Fairlane 500 2 door hardtop, with a manual transmission and a supercharged 312, in all white, with a blue interior, kind of like this one, and get a custom license plate that says "the ghost" or something cool. upload_2022-2-5_14-50-25.png

  15. Not if you didn't drive it or drove it like most of the members drive their hot rods.

    Jim this one will make you smile. I did not grow up in the mid west, and was unpleasantly surprised by rust belt cars when I moved back here. [​IMG]

    That said in the mid '70s I bought a '54 Chevy wagon from a farmer that was original paint, well used and basically rust free. He was a clean freak is all that I can imagine, well that and they had not yet begun using liquid salt where i lived and rock salt is way less intrusive.

    Memory is a thing that grows as other things spark some electricity in that old noggin. I can almost remember the exact day when I really wanted my own fast hot rod sedan. I had been given the fast 58 Impala and I was not one to complain. It was a great, fast car, set up to win at any event or encounter. It was roomy and had a great one of a kind style. I had known the ins and outs of the Impala since my brother rolled into our driveway, after picking it up at the local Chevy dealer a few miles from our Long Beach house.

    We were in the throes of my brother’s recovery from his 3rd degree burns and I was the caretaker when our mom was not harping on both of us at this awful time. But, as I got some free time to cruise around, the Impala was front and center. I was responsible as I could, knowing what I had to do for my brother.

    My friend just got his new 1961 blue Pontiac two door hardtop and it was really a great looking car. Fast, but not as fast as my 58 Impala. He did not want to modify his car as the daily drive to school and a full time job at our neighborhood Texaco Gas Station kept him busy. Plus, it was a brand new car. I was envious at the mention of his brand new 61 Pontiac hardtop. When we went to the Texaco Gas Station, the usual hot rod, teenager bantering was a part of growing up.

    We discussed the new models and what they could do, as well as modifications to our sedans to keep up with the new cars. Customizing, modifying our stock sedans and a combination of the two were always topics of conversation. The teenage hot rod scene was changing and it was difficult to keep up, especially with our limited budgets.

    But, my mind was and always had been pinpointed toward the factory built hot rod sedans that started with our 58 Impala model and continued on to the 1961 409 model. The red 1961 409 Biscayne in Bixby Knolls was the "official fastest car" on the block. He did not have to prove it. But when we raced, I was out in front in the 58 Impala by at least two car lengths to the 1/8th mile, before I could see him coming up fast in the next lane. So, he saw my 6 red taillights/brake lights come on signifying the end of the race.

    Now, with this new 409 and the new big motor 61 Pontiac, it was total envy for both of my friends purchases. I never got to order a new model, I was just the "hand me down" kid. A nice car that was the hand me down, but, never the less, it was not a new model I could order and be instantly fast.

    So, I liked my friend’s blue 61 Pontiac. My black 58 Impala paint was pristine and the whole car was one of the nicest in the whole cruising area. But, knowing our experience at Lion’s Dragstrip in the stock classes, there was always a new car to top off everyone.

    Now, I wanted a new car and I knew what it was going to be from the factory. Since I got our 280 hp 348 motor Impala down to 14.68 E.T. then with an additional 80 hp 409 motor and 4 speed would easily hit the 13’s.


    But, as things would go, it was too soon to buy a new car, no money in the bank and no prospects for a full time job. So, no new 409 SS package Impala hardtop for me.

  23. Leno turned me on to this one. 1955 Packard Caribbean. The chassis is what makes me really like this car. It used torsion bars that ran almost the whole length of the car.
