Licklider brothers, from Staunton, VA. This car was competitive -- winning titles and setting records at national meets. One one run, the clutch blew, breaking a steering component, and it ran into Joe Tucci's dragster. The crash paralyzed Joe, so builder Pat Bilbow took over the driving for Joe's dragster.

YIKES if that is the oil filter it is in a very dangerous spot. If it leaks right onto the slick. If the tire explodes it will get knocked off.

  6. Could that be a canister with colored powder for a burnout with colored tire smoke ? Did they do that back then ? Something similar to those big flame burnouts.

Top fuel cars didn't use colored smoke.

It seems that if the "tire explodes"...the driver will have more to worry about than just a little oil..!
Normally the term, "explodes" is related to a happening down track at speed, and much less controllable in the first place.
A "leak" would happen earlier in the run, going much slower, and more controllable.

Dean Turk in the Woudenberg Pontiac-sponsored fuel dragster. I saw him make it to the finals at a Pomona fueler meet, finally fell to Art Chrisman in the Hustler I.

I think that this is the Hartman family Pontiac-powered roadster, out of the Pacific Northwest. Might be a Chassis Research altered chassis.

Fred Cerutti's Quality Auto Parts fuel altered, from Livermore, CA. Chassis by Pete Ogden, so it is similar to Pure Hell.

Lowe Brothers, from Atlanta. The Reed Brothers from California ran the car, built and driven by Art Chrisman. Photo from the Glenn Ward collection, posted by Glenn's grandson Jason. Here is another photo of Chrisman with the Reed chrisman reed brothers.png roadster:
